You certainly need to keep these once all is said and done.
I'm certainly looking into some kind of black market for used hi-tech steel after all is said, done and paid for  What the heck costs in these wires??? Are they by-products of space technology or something??
Case: Impacted canines, crowding & crossbite.
Treatment: SARPE 2004/10/6, RPE 2004/9/28 - 2005/1/31, w-arch until 2005/11/22, impacted canines extracted 2005/5/18.
Braces on: top 2005/6/2, bottom 2005/8/30.
Braces off: 2008/6/9.
Retainers, phase one: expanding Hawley retainer 24/7, bonded retainers on top & bottom.

Adjustment #29 is done and now my teeth are proudly carrying #22 arch wires both up & down, the strongest ones my ortho ever really uses, so it's all about final touches now, she says. And adds that this final touching should be over "before summer"". Last time it was "before Christmas" but who's counting... Well, at least we are now talking about the "over" stuff after all these years  NEXT SUMMER these braces won't be there and that should be a fact. If the schedule for some reason moves up, that can only be a nice surprise.

Last Thursday I had adjustment #30 done by the ortho's assistant because the ortho herself wasn't there. They just didn't bother telling me that would be the case - don't ask me  So I suppose things are not really moving forward until the next appointment in December. Bummer :( I sincerely do not welcome this sort of delays now that I have been told that this should be all done by summer 2008. Luckily there is a silver lining on my cloud, though: I got wire ligatures that allow me to eat and drink anything I please for the next 4 weeks. GROOVY, BABY, YEAH! It was about time to have a glass of red wine!

... wow ... adjustment 30 ... you must be a very familiar person at your ortho's office!
Actually, now that you mention it, KK... they seem to remember my name by heart when I show up for my appointment

I was just wondering the other day how things would be going for you. Great to
see your post. I looked at your pics and saw that the most recent pic (page 12) is
pretty old. Maybe it is time to show us a new pic, please. Because I think you are
about to finish this journey.

Hi, Clo! Good to hear from you, too!
You're right. It's been on my mind to refresh my photo gallery, but lately I have been such a lazy ass... And a bit busy with work, too.
I'm sure this happens to all of us: at some point it seems to your own eye that there are no visible changes going on anymore. So there seems to be no point in taking pictures on regular basis like in the beginning of the treatment. I know that is not the case, though, and I can see with my bare eyes that my latest picture is not telling the truth of my teeth today.
Thanks for reminding me, I'll try to do something about this before I get naked :) Gee, did I just say that?

Yes, you did !!! I see this here so many times, about getting naked. And I always
think this is a bit strange to say. I wonder how many ... twisted minds found our
site thinking to see ... eh ... you know what ... and then seeing ... braceless teeth.
What a disappointment that must be ! Hihi.

I just returned from adjustment #31 with a hopeful heart. You have to hear this, it's so like my ortho. As she was done with my adjustment she spoke over my head to her assistant saying
"Please write down T. Ret. question mark for the next appointment" and then went on about something else.
When she was about to sneak out of the room I asked
"what was that ret thing you just said?". She looked at me like she had no idea of what I was talking about.
"That thing you said to her", I said pointing at the assistant.
"Oh that", she laughed.
"That means the next time we will see if you are ready for retainers. We are almost there."

I won't be holding my breath, but things are looking good today :) It was quite a heavy duty adjustment. though, so I expect not to bite into anything much at Christmas, but who cares, it's the last Christmas in braces!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS to everyone!

Oh oh oh, great post !

Like this thing was not that important for a patient. It would not surprise me that when
you see your ortho in December 2008, she would tell you : "what are you doing here ?
Didn't you know we took off your braces back in February ?". You are right, this is indeed
so like your ortho. When does her course "basic communication, part 1 " start ? Anyway,
this is still very good news !!!

I probably will be seeing her then and beyond. My ortho wants to regularly observe her patients for at least 5 years after the braces are gone. So I'm stuck with her for quite a while, although on a yearly basis only. If she retires (she's 61 now) before she's done keeping an eye on me, her son, the orthodontist, will most likely pick up from where she leaves me. I'm stuck with her family, anyway, because my regular dentist is my ortho's daughter-in-law. You can run but you can't hide from them

What an adjustment they did yesterday! My mouth is killing me today :soremouth:

Adjustment #32 and still not naked. Aaaaaalmost there, the ortho keeps telling me. Next appointment will be in 3 weeks - maybe then...? They did some minor tweaking here and there and told me to wear one single elastic (from upper right #7 to lower right #3) faithfully to make a lower canine go where it should be going. Go, canine, go!

Adjustment #33 was on Monday 18th. Don't even ask  Yet another new archwire coming in on April 1st... and this was supposed to be just about over! I can't see that happening any sooner than in May! :-+

Wow, Joplin... surprised to see you still on here. I was afraid I wouldn't recognize many folks, but there are still several!

Hope all is well with you and you finally get out of those braces soon!
