22/24 & there's no way there'll be done in 2 aligner's t

#1 Post by Iwantniceteeth »

I'm at the end of 22/24 upper and lower and I am definitely going to need refinements. There is no way my teeth will be perfectly straight in 2 aligner's time. However, I am pleased with the results so far. I have developed a 1mil black triangle which will need fixing with IPR and new aligners. My dentist said I will need probably 7 more refinement aligners but these will only be worn for a week a time and the attachments will be removed at the end of 24. I'll be glad to get them off and start my whitening treatment.

My teeth will need reshaping too, as they look all out of line horizontally with rough edges.

Will keep you updated after my refinement aligners are here :)

Hi!

Pretty straight-forward username you picked there! Like it!

Congrats on the progress of your treatment! From what my ortho told me, refinements occur in about 85 percent of all cases.
I've had 2 already, and currently I'm thinking about getting a third since I really want everything purrrrrrrfect... :P
I've noticed that the closer I get to the end the pickier I become...

Good luck on the rest of your treatment!

Refinement - how many before they charge more? My ortho told me you only get two on top of the initial treatment. I'm about to start my second one.

I'm not sure if that depends on where you're located... (Europe, USA,...)
My ortho said that whether they charge or not depends on the contract you have and when you joined the club. He has patients who started out a lot earlier than me and they didn't have to pay any extra fees, one lady had 4 refinements altogether. I had to pay about 130euros (180-200dollars???) to get my second, if I decide on a third I won't have to pay anything.
There's supposed to be another kind of contract where all the refinements are included.
I'm not sure if that's due to Invisalign or to my ortho's practice...

If all else fails go back to the clincheck

I would think most dentists would go back to the Clincheck and say "this is what you approved, and this is what it looks like"...

But in the interest of their reputation, good customer service, etc, and since they are charging such an outrageous amount of money for something that requires very little of their time compared to traditional orthodontics, I would think that they would be inclined to make sure you are 100% satisfied with the end result.

On the other hand, don't try to compare your teeth to everyone else's. A lot of people with perfectly white and straight teeth almost look too perfect and they look "Fake" to me. In fact, many of them probably did have some vaneers. There may come a point where you'll be lured into getting vaneers if you can't get the exact results you want, and I would strongly caution you against that route, after that what's next?

Yep, however, sometimes it just doesn't turn out exactly the way it was planned. ClinCheck is not a very acurate model and only shows a simplified visualization of the movement. In my case, all my aligners fit perfectly up to the very last one (which I still use as a retainer right now), so everything went according to plan. However, my teeth don't quite look like the ClinCheck-result and show some (slight) irregularities.
Before I began my treatment, I have to say that I would have been happy about the slightest improvement, but actually..... well, I'm getting quite picky now that the end is near. But hey, I paid a lot of money for it, and as long as my ortho doesn't say "Alright, this is it, we can't go any further"...
But actually, if they charge too much for that, that's really not justified.

And you are right, if the smile is too white/ perfect, then there's really a great danger of it looking fake. I totally don't like that, I prefer a more "natural" look. But since the shape of my teeth isn't too regular/ even, one more refinement won't hurt...
Ha, and then that nose-job, some botox, eyelash-implants, hair-extensions and a bit of plastic surgery... Just kidding!

Hahaha! That is so funny, I was going to say botox too, but I didn't want to offend you in case you already had that done! ;) My friend works for a plastic surgeon in NYC and does it for a living, so I hear about the cases all the time of the girls that nit pick every square inch of their body when they come in. LOL

You know, the irony of the whole thing is my friend paid like $4500 for braces. It was supposed to be an 18 month thing, and he's had them on for 26 months now. It's mostly those "Refinements" you're referring to that his dentist is trying to perfect, so refinements happen even with wires. :)

Glad you liked my name RenaissanceGurl!

Well I'm on 24 and they look like the clin check but dont look right if you know what I mean. Next week I will have the attachments off (WHOOP WHOOP!) and my teeth levelled out and will commence whitening.

The refinements are part of the initial payment, but seeing as it cost my nearly £5000 in total, so they should be!!

I'm hoping the levelling off of the teeth and the whitening do not make them look too fake, but I've had so many comments about my amazing smile it's great! And no one's noticed my botox either ;)
The before pics are truly horredous and I will post the before and after when I have completed my refinements.

I want nice teeth will become I HAVE nice teeth YAY!!!
