Ok, it's 7 days post op and I pretty much have this constant tingle in the right side of my top lip.
I can pretty much feel my bottom lips now (probably around 70% feeling), but not my top.
What does this tingling indicate?
It's rather annoying.
The whole right side is heaps more numb than the rest of the face.
And also how long do you have to eat from a syringe for?
At what stage can I use cups/spoons/straws?
Thanks

Its your nerves regrowing to where they were after being severed by the surgeon.Sweet Escape wrote:Ok, it's 7 days post op and I pretty much have this constant tingle in the right side of my top lip.

If you're only at 7-days you've got a lot more of it to put up with. Its gets easier to deal with and lessens with time. It's rather annoying.
You don't "have" to use a syringe at all if you don't need to. If you can manage to pull off drinking from a cup at day 1 then go for it. A lot of people, myself included, were unable to drink from a cup until the mouth was unbanded at which point you can open your mouth and actually manage to get food & drink in there without the need of a syringe. The point of the syringe is that the long hose is able to be fed in through closed teeth, so once you're able to open your teeth, you can pretty much fit a baby spoon in there to feed yourself. And also how long do you have to eat from a syringe for?

I supose if you enjoy eating from a syringe you could use it as long as you like.
hey.. i'm a couple of weeks post op as well and had the same surgery (both jaws moved for an underbite). My doctor told me that age is a significant factor for the sensation to come back (i'm 23). If you have had 70 percent of the feeling come back in one week i would think that you are probably very close to full sensation. I was just curious to know that has the sensation been comming back from no feeling post op to 70 percent, or did you have 70 percent feeling immediately post op.
Additionally in somewhat related to the syringe. does anyone know when using a straw is safe?

I was the total opposite of you, after the first week i recovered 80% of my numbness including full feeling of my top lip but my bottom lip and chin was totally numb and i had the tingling sensation all the time as well. Eventally you get used to it and now after 2 months i have full feeling of the left side of my bottom lip and chin the right part is starting to have feeling but its not close to being 100%.
