My Progress in Pictures...adjustment #6

#1 Post by sean83 »

As I write this I am recovering from adjustment #1, 5 weeks and 5 days into my stint in braces, and I feel it's an appropriate time to start posting my progress!

I'll start by copying my first post on the board...
Hello all, I've just spent ages browsing this great site and just registered on the forum! I'm now reassured and worried in equal measure. A bit about me...

I'm originally from County Durham, where I was referred to the Orthodontist back in 2003 whilst at uni. I had some x-rays in 2005, then moved to London for work in 2006. At this point I thought I'd lost my chance of straight teeth as I was told they couldn't transfer treatment to London! By 2007 work had brought me to Leeds, and I'd forgotten about the Orthodontist until late last year when they invited me to start treatment.

Now living 80 miles from the Orthodontist, and being 10 years too late (in my opinion) I was reluctant, but after much deliberation I decided to go for it. Because I registered whilst a student, I get it on the NHS so I couldn't turn it down - the cost would be too much if I ever wanted it later in life.

Anyway, I'm 4 teeth down and had spacers fitted yesterday before the main event next Friday. Roll on 2010 I say!"
That was 05/01/2008, when my teeth looked like this (apologies for the quality from my camera phone  ):

Image

On 11/01/2008, the journey had begun and I was adamant I could see change straight away, but the untrained eye may disagree! Now they looked like this:

Image

So, today, I made the 80 mile trek once more. I was quite looking forward to it, partly out of curiosity, partly hoping to see some miraculous difference...but I shall never look forward to another one again. Today was possibly the most painful experience so far, and I'd say adjustments should come with the same injections as extractions  ! No new wire today, just tightening (though the side wires to close my gaps were replaced).

These three may look much of a muchness (those lateral incisors will take some work!), but my two central incisors no longer cross over, and my right lateral incisor has made progress. This after less than 6 weeks is encouraging, and my next appointment is not for 8 weeks which will hopefully hurt a bit less!

Hi C00ky!!

Welcome to the braces stories blog -- looking forward to seeing your progress when you can get that third picture up. I think it is great that you have started your journey ... you will be thrilled with the results ... it already sounds like you have seen some good things. Does that make the pain a little more bearable? I hope so.

Can't wait to hear more about your progress! Good luck!

Cheers from the Rocky Mountains,
Kate

Wow your lateral incisor is similar to mine - just on the other side. I bet you're glad to have that being wrangled into place ;)

There we go, pictures sorted with the help of Paint (high-tech picture manipulation!). Thanks for the replies, I see what you mean kitty! I'm pleased to say I'm now feeling exactly the same as 2 days ago. 8)

Hi all,

2 days since adjustment number 2, with new pictorial evidence...

Image

Hurt slightly less this time - the ortho must be getting the hang of it. Note the slant which I posted about recently, which I believe will sort itself out in the long run. Pleased with the way things are progressing, though there's not a lot going on downstairs yet. I'll post back in June!

Adjustment number 3 on Monday saw a new thick wire up top, with what I now know to be a power chain. Not such a bad adjustment, but the added force was felt afterwards! Ortho seems pleased, just waiting for things to catch up on the bottom.

Well, it is that time again so here is my picture after my 4th adjustment.

Still not a lot happening downstairs, but the top deck are looking better all the time, to a point where I'm almost happy to smile again :)

Here we are after adjustment 1, 2, 3, 4...5 I think? I'm losing count. A further new, thicker wire up top, and a new wire down below but not thicker.

Not sure what he's done on the top actually - my new wire seems to have horns, and there's a second wire behind in a powerchain kind of arrangement!

Time for another update: this time the bottom rack are starting to shift, and I can certainly feel it! I've also had a bit of a clean at the dentist so things are looking well. 9 months in=halfway there :D
