Cowboy New to Braces

#1 Post by Buck Strong »

Howdy,
I'm totally new the whole braces experience. I just got mine on a week ago. Just the uppers though; my top teeth need to move out to make room for the bottom ones. It's definitely a new experience and I'm getting some interesting looks. I am a New Mexico transplant to Portland Oregon; so, I already get looks because of my cowboy gear. But now the braces have added a whole new dimension.
Oh, I'm also a failed cowboy. I realized that I wasn't that good at it; so, off to college. Now, I teach math for a living at a school that has grades 6-12. I will be fitting in well with my kids. Last week when I was getting them on, one of my students was three chairs down getting his adjustment. He was a little surprised to see me there.
So far, it hasn't been too bad, except for all of the food getting stuck. Oh, and it's amazing how white your teeth get when you have to brush upwards of four times a day.

Hi Geoff, welcome to AW! I'm practically a neighbor to you, from Olympia Washington. I lived in Portland for many years before moving to Oly.

How fun to run into your student at the ortho! I bet that gave the kids something to talk about!

Huge welcome to you cowboy Geoff : ) Glad you found the AW forum. And huge congrats to you on getting your braces! I think it's awesome that you are setting a wonderful example to your students - that you can always continue to improve yourself throughout your life. We look forward to hearing about your journey.

(I am 10 months in with my braces. I was really scared to get them, but all has been proceeding great, couldn't be happier!)

Thanks so much. My kids have actually been a wealth of information about what to expect and what foods are good/bad to eat.
