"Ethno“ orthodontics, almost painless and no troubles

#1 Post by Hordeotech »

Dear parents,

if orthodontic treatment of your child is advisable, how to avoid problems with eating, with brushing / flossing, or the menace of pain which lasts for days?
We hadn´t these problems in Germany until 20 years ago, and in German Democratic Republic even until re-unification. Due to German "ethno“ orthodontics, or rather "jaw orthopedics“, because depending much on growth.
The following old example is described in more detail among the case examples in my page below. Situation at begin:

Note that there is no „phase 1“ or so. This treatment with so-called „active plates“ in begun while the side teeth change, and therefore not only maintains the space excess of the milk molars. Moreover, expansion can well be done in this age of growth. Even in the lower jaw, before the cuspids appear.
3 pairs of these rather inexpensive, however hand-crafted removables were used, of which the last pair ended up as retainers.
But the first upper plate for this crowded case here is the most impressive. 16/24h wear was demanded:

It does 4 things slowly and therefore painlessly, but simultaneously and therefore, the duration of treatment will remain moderate.
- expansion
- shifting the incisors forward
- shifting one molar slightly backward
- untwisting the incisors: the plastic segment that pushes them from behind has been given a proper shape, and when the teeth arrive at the frontal wire, this will further assist the proper alignment.
Here the healty result, which was achieved without damage or suffering:

The overall expansion adds up to 6 – 7 mm in the upper jaw, and also some mm in the lower jaw.
