Getting Braces Wednesday!

#1 Post by ninamcg123 »

Hello all. I'm new to the message boards and to braces. I'm 22 year old recent college grad, and freaking out bout getting braces. I had the spacers in 4 weeks ago and have the metal molar bands on now, and they are already giving me horrible canker sores. I'm getting ceramics on the top and bottom. So just two more days till the big day! just wanted to introduce my self! any words of encouragement would be much appreciated! :?

Good luck tomorrow. I have ceramic top and bottom as well. Don't worry it's not as big of a deal as you think. Most people don't even notice. Let us know how it goes.

Welcome!

I'm so glad you found this forum, warm welcome to you.
And, huge congrats!!! I hope you are proud of yourself... getting braces is a big step and a great thing that you are doing for yourself! You'll benefit for a very long time.

I've had my braces for 10 months now. I was so scared to get them. But to be honest with you, it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, I found it to be quite a smooth process. Don't worry, it'll go just fine for you!

It'll just take a bit to adjust - it's a big change to the system, so give your body some time. But be assured, the adjusment will come quickly and you'll be fine. I find my braces quite comfortable most of the time.

Eating will be an adjustment. Go with soups, smoothies and soft foods initially. Your teeth will be sensitive. Then start cutting food up into small pieces. Soon you'll be eating pretty much anything.

If you have any questions at all, post them in this forum - it's a wonderfully supportive group.

Above all, give yourself a huge pat on the back, and flash those beautiful braces at every opportunity with a nice big smile!

#7 Post by Big Smile »

Hello Everyone! I have had my braces on for two weeks on Monday. I am just now starting to get mouth sores and wondering at times is it really worth all the pain. I was actually looking for tips to handle mouth sores when I came across this website. I was so excited, I sign up in 2 minutes.

I can't wait to hear everyone's stories and tips.

Hi Big Smile...
Congrats on getting your braces! You now have to worst of it over with... it'll get much much better.

Sorry I can't help with you question, I had a few cuts in my mouth from the wires but they weren't too bad. There's not a doubt in mind that others in this forum have had this issue though and can offer you some great tips. I would post your question with a specific subject under the Metal Mouth forum (use the jump to menu below). You'll probably get more responses there.

We look forward to hearing more from you!
