Carbonated drinks

#1 Post by sad sam »

Does anyone know why you should avoid carbonated drinks when wearing lingual braces especially sparkling wind and sparkling mineral water??

Thanks
Sam

Hi Sam - I am a life long Pepsi drinker and was told it was a no-no with the iBraces.. my ortho relented and said I could have 1 every once and awhile.. I try to limit myself to 2 a day.. I've heard the sugar can affect the "glue" used but who knows.. When my brackets have come off, I know it is because of things I have eaten not what I've been drinking.. I usually brush my teeth after I have a soda just in case!

Good luck!

No idea and ortho didnt mention it...

If it does affect the glue maybe it depends what glue's being used...?!

I have no idea and it wasn't mentioned to me (but to be honest I don't drink carbonated beverages).

Does anyone have a view on beer?! I hardly drink soft carbonated drinks at all, but not sure i can survive without the odd beer or two

I also drink sparkling water, but tend to go for the softer/naturally carbonated stuff eg San Pelegrino. Although maybe should go for still water.

meryaten - thanks for you your response. I agree that beer must be less harmful than a can of nasty fizzy coke. I'll take your advice on rinsing with water afterwards and then brushing. I don't drink as much beer as i used to when i was younger, so i'm not going to stress myself about this - especially as i rarely drink coke etc.... Anyway, hello wine!!!

Wow...I didn't even think about beer. I didn't change my beer drinking habits at all. Of course, I only drink on occasion (e.g. sun comes up, sun goes down, it's raining, it's not raining). In other words, I drank lots of beer. While I did have several brackets come loose during my 18 months (so far) all (I think) were when I was eating things I shouldn't have been eating.
