Sorry to hijack your post again JayC, but I missed this one...

Meryaten~ I met an Englishwoman on vacation last Fall who owns a couple horses, and we have kept in touch. Suffice it to say that things are a bit different in Minnesota in terms of expense, thank goodness!

My parents couldn't afford a horse, nor were they able/willing to buy riding lessons. I used to beg my dad to stop the car if I saw a horse in a pasture just so I could feed it grass through the fence. I was thrilled if it came close enough to pet and I would spend the rest of the day smelling my hand!

no worries. hhaha.. oh theres a clip on youtube i found. im not sure if youve seen it but im sure some of you have. WARNING: not for the faint of heart. its probably best for the ppl who HAVE done this operation to watch it rather than the ones who have not. i dont wanna scare anyone who has yet to get their operation in second thinking lol...after seing this i am now not so surprised as to why i was so swollen and bruised.

Thanks Adantae. I actuall disregarded what the surgeon said and waited a full 3 months before I started Ice hockey again. I DID play that one game with that guard on but it impaired my vision and I decded that I would only play if I could be at my best. So i decided to wait until the 3 mth mark which is the minimal time frame most surgeons say to start any type of contact sports post jaw surgery. THe muscles have totally adapted and are not tight anymore. They were bit before whenever I wokeup in the morning and it took a bit to get them stretched and warmed up but now I dont even really think about my jaw surgery all that much.

So I think it's safe to say I am VERY close to a 100% recovery. I would guess a solid month from today I will easily be at 100%. I am very very pleased. As of today, I'm back to my regular weight pre surgery. LIfting weights as intensively as before, and am back to playing Ice hockey for my DIv 1 team again full time!

so i had my 2nd last ortho appt on jul 9th! wearing class 3s ONLY at nite now... until aug 18th. which then will be... DEBRACE DAY!!!!! getting my mold made in the mornig and going back in the noon for my essix!!!

my ortho recommended the vivera retainers over any wire retainers. didnt like the bonded retainer idea that my initial consultation said i was gonna get. he said that bc you dont notice if the bonding gets weak and the teeth may shift because of that.. the vivera retainers made by invisalign is the best option in terms of retention. the only thing is that i have to pay extra.. 500 for a year supply. its basicaly a fixed version of the invisilign and more durable than the essix.

Jay, So what happens after the year? Do you go to another kind of retainer for weekly use or are you just flat out done? or do you get another year's subscription to the same retainers?

Let me know how you like them btw! I have a hawley and an essix right now, and the essix is great but getting a little worn; the hawley I think is adjusted incorrectly, because I wake up and my front four upper teeth feel like they are pulled more in than the night before and my bite is off. I've stopped wearing it, but my ortho is in another city and I can't see him till August since I'm taking the bar exam (law practice requirement) at the end of July.

well i would have to probably order another set after mine all run out. the ortho assistnat said that after a while i would wear it pretty much nightly every few days.. so i wouldnt go through more than 1-2 every year. and since its at nite, unless i grind, they wouldnt really get worn out. its only during the day when we talk and what not... but i probably will want to wear it nightly for teh rest of my life. i do NOT want to take any chances with relapse.

eventually if i end up only wearing the retainers every so often.. i might get hawleys made for nite use only. we will see i guess. but for teh first year i do want the vivera as i do not want ANY metal in my mouth after these braces are off! hahah
