I had 4 extractions. Two up top and two at bottom in order to correct my overbite. I have read that several people have TADs, however it doesnt seem like they had them along with extractions. WHat is your advice on this?
Should I just not request TADS, since i heard they are hard to deal with, and just request banding to pull my overbite back. I'm so nervous about this. My treatment has been painful and i've been getting depressed as a result espc since I'm missing 4 teeth...I don't like to smile anymore b/c i'm embarrassed about the holes.
I have TADs to correct an open bite. Don't be nervous, they're not that bad. Check out my blog thread. I would think for an over bite they would work wonderfully. Instead of pulling from dynamic tooth to dynamic tooth and trying to balance the tension to achieve the desired result, they can tie straight to a static anchor and eliminate the balancing act.
Does your ortho want to do them or is it something you're thinking of requesting? Mine were an option presented by the ortho so no matter what I'd discuss using them with the ortho before making any decisions.
Don't worry about image. Just bite into beer cans at parties and remember that when everyone's old and gray they wont have any teeth anyway.
I also had four extractions a scant few weeks ago to correct an overbite, as well as some "excessive" crowding. I'm just starting out, but as a part of the game plan I discussed with my ortho prior to this extraction business, he mentioned that there may either i) TADS or ii) headgear in my future. It depends on how things move, but I would get to choose between the two options (what a great game of 'would you rather').
As Meryaten mentioned, they'd be used to keep my teeth from tugging on each other. He said they'd help keep the top molars right where they are, lest they slide ahead toward my canines, making my malocclusion worse. I can't afford any more overbite than I already have.
Also, your teeth, from the picture, look great. I bet they'll look amazing when you've finished. Just keep reminding yourself about that as you slog through this.

Don't know about you, but i'll still have every one of my teeth when i am old a grey. Dental hygiene awareness and regular dentist visits, products etc.. have come leaps and bounds since when the old and grey people of today were young.
