Time Between Ortho Visits

#1 Post by CarlinaGrl »

I just got my braces about a week ago. Doing good. My ortho said my treatment time would be about 18 mos. more or less. The only thing is, I was told on my first visit that there would be 10 weeks between adjustments/visits. I was shocked because I thought that I would have to go every month or six weeks. The ortho tech said that they were using a tougher/different wire that allowed more time between adjustments. It's been bothering me ever since my braces were put on. I have clear on the top front six and metal on the rest (including bottoms). Does 10 weeks sound ok for time between adjustments? Thanks!

I have had 3 adjustments so far with only 6 weeks between them.

But this last adjustment I've got really thick wires on them (my ortho is feeling evil this month I guess  ) and my next adjustment is 9 weeks away!

I'm sure your ortho will know what he's doing :)

Wow, my adjustments are 4-5 weeks apart. You said he was using a new or different type of wire on you so maybe that's how it is with that one.

my appointments are every 4 weeks. i get new ligs and a new wire each time now, and a new powerchain on the bottom front teeth to close a gap. i thought i seemed to be going very frequently in comparison to others here.

Treatments and orthos differ, so the time between appointments generally seem to differ between patients too.
For me, there doesn't seem to be a set "this is how many weeks between each appointment" thing going on. I've had appointments that were eight weeks apart, and come November/December I'll have two appointments that are just two weeks apart. Go figure.
So I wouldn't worry about it. And really, most ortho appointments end up lasting a grand total of 10 minutes anyway. :D

I have to wait 6 weeks between every appointment.
Some people have appointments as often as every 3 weeks or 4 weeks.
It just all depends on your orthodontist.

I used to go 10-12 weeks between.

No worries.

I had to wait 12 weeks after for my first adjustment. Between 8-10 weeks for the last 2.

I got braces a few months ago and so far my appointments are scheduled 6-7 weeks apart. From what I heard, 10 weeks is pretty normal.
It really depends on what kind of braces you have, and who your orthodontist is.

Mine varies between 4 weeks and 10 weeks. Last time I went after 10 weeks they weren't even going to change my top wire until my ortho noticed it was broken. Oops! I didn't even notice, but his assisstant ad a trainee ortho had been looking at my teeth before him and they didn't notice either! Prefere the 4 weeks to be honest, 10 weeks is a lot of waiting and I always feel that I'm making more progress if I'm there more often!

My appointments are, and as far as I know are gonna be 4 weeks apart. At least that is what I was told. I though it was normal, but it seems that there is far more variety to it. I wonder if more appointments mean faster progress or that does not matter at all? In a way, after an appointment, and despite the pain and all, I feel like things are moving...

I go every 8 weeks. I bet a lot of the 8-12 week people most likely have self ligating. They do not require lig changes, etc. so you only really have to go for wire changes and reshapings, etc.

I have self-ligating braces (Damon 3's, 23 months so far, almost done) and for the first year, I went every 12 weeks. Since then the appointments have started getting closer together to fine tune things, they went down to 8 weeks apart, then 6 then 4, and my next appointment will only have been two weeks since the last one.
