How long was your stay in the hospital?

#1 Post by jammin54 »

I saw the surgeon a couple of weeks ago for a consultation. He said the surgery would be done on an outpatient basis and there is no need for an overnight stay. How long was your stay??

I'm in Oakland, CA. He would be moving my lower jaw forward but didn't give me a name for it other than orthognathic surgery. Guess I better be askin' some questions. He said I would need 2 weeks home recovery and could return to work on week three but not to lift anything more than 10 lbs for 6 weeks.

I had both upper and lower jaw surgery and was kept in hospital for two nights.... But I guess it depends on what sorta surgery you're having.

I'm in Oakland as well (Kaiser, Oakland and I hear they are good), and having the same procedure. He explained he was going to do but didn't name the procedure and I didn't know enough to ask at the time. He also said most likely I would be going home the same day.

Kaiser Oakland for me too. Guess I'll have to do a search to see if I can find the posts on those that had it done at Kaiser.

I had only sliding genioplasty on outpatient basis. I went home about an hour after surgery. My surgeon has done orthognathic surgery for over 28 years and also has dental degree. He has great reputation. I was age 79 when I had this done.

I had BSSO & Le Fort and stayed two nights. They wanted to discharge me before the second night but I chose to stay because I didn't feel like I had enough of a handle on the pain to go home quite yet.

I'm in Oakland also, had surgery with Kaiser...had BSSO and genio done.

They send home lower jaw surgery-only patients home the same day, unless there are complications. My surgery started at about 9:15 am, and I was home before well before dark. I want to say I was home by 2pm, but I was still so drugged-out on Phenergan and Morphine that I feel uncertain of the exact time.

I'm in Vancouver BC ... for my lower jaw 2 years ago I stayed in hospital 2 days, because I had been intubated due to severe nausea (kinda can't barf if you're wired shut)
for my upper jaw last week, I went in at 8am and was released by 2pm same day. Mind you, I felt like crap, but I was ok to go home.

Will be having upper & lower jaw surgery but not for another 9 months or so this will also be @ The Oakland Kaiser.
Was told I would come in that morning and stay overnight - if all goes well leave the next day.

It's good to hear there are a lot out there who have gone/or will go to Kaiser Oakland. Helps lessen the anxiety...
