I am just over a week of wearing mine now. Not really noticed any difference but the pain when wearing the retainer is not as bad. Speaking is still a nightmare as I can't really say more than a few words without feeling sick. Not back at the dentist till early December.... What will he do at this appointment? Will he tighten it?
I am planning to set up a blog documenting the changes each week through pictures. Has anyone else done this?
Really good to hear of other users. I was a bit hesitant and dubious about them because I couldn't find first hand accounts of inman users - so this is great!
I had an Inman for about three months and finished with it in early September. I had one front upper tooth that stuck out about 8mm and the tooth to the side of it was twisted behind. I also have a mild overbite. I also had mild crowding of the front lowers and wore a couple of invisalign type retainers to sort this.
I found I lisped when wearing the device and it did effect the way I looked because it was bulky under my lip, but now the treatment is over it seems it was worth it.
I'm now wearing essix retainers at night and I'm happy with the appearance of my teeth. For the first time I will now smile in photos. They are not perfectly straight - but I think they look natural and much better.
Sometimes I get a bit worried because one of my lower front teeth is still very slightly loose (I know it can take months for this to settle down) and because the Inman aligner seems too good to be true. I'm kind of waiting for a catch! I don't know if anyone else feels like this, but I feel like a bit of a cheat. Maybe I'm just a weirdo!
I was a bit confused with people talking about having the inman tightened, but at my appopintment last week my guy put a little bead of plastic on inner springs, effectively making them more compressed and therefore pushing harder. I have definitely felt a difference (back to no apples for a few days!).
Sherral - quite often nothing happens at the check-ups, they're just to monitor progress. I have had a bit of tooth shaving on occasions but not the last two.

I didn't have my aligner tightened or altered during treatment at all. Are there different kinds maybe?
My one had an expander in the arch which I had to adjust myself to make wider each week, sometimes my dentist also adjusted it further. The only other thing he did was a small amount of IPR (shaving) but not a lot due to the arch expansion making the room.
Good to hear from R that the retainer is almost invisible, I am waiting to get my one which should tweak the final bits and bobs and then I get a final one. I am having this instead of a bonded wire but my dentist says that if I find the teeth start to move during the day, I may have to have one. Just have to see how it goes.
Has anyone asked their dentist/ortho if moving the teeth this quickly could be harmful?
I've finished my treatment and was given no warnings before, but now I'm worried that having them fixed that quickly could have damaged them in some way? I see posters on here (using other appliances) comment on not speeding up treatment times because it would be bad for their tooth roots and bone.
Today was a momentous day - I have swapped from the Inman to a clear aligner. I'm almost feeling a bit lost without it to be honest but what a difference. As you all know, I had an expander over my palate which was incorporated into my Inman but now I have the clear, my palate is back and I can talk freely again!! I can nag my b/f without him pretending he can't understand me once more.
The best thing is it is hardly noticable and as my teeth are so much better than when I started it's nice to be able to smile and show them. One of my front teeth is lower than the other and the clear is going to move it up which should more or less complete treatment. The only issue at the moment is I'm a bit spitty again but I'm sure that will pass.
Then I just get another clear to act as a retainer - yay!!!!

Re the clear retainer- is it much much easier to talk then? except for the whole saliva thing?!
I am so excited to be nearing the end of my treatment- but I should still be concentrating on wearing my IA as much as possible before i get the clear one in just over a week.

Well it's in, feels a bit alien but i can feel it working already. Also, the dentist showed me what the final result will be so i plan to wear the IA as much as possible. The end result looks fantastic, I can't wait to get there
I had some shaving done and the annoying composites added to my two front teeth!!!!
I wore it straight to work and everyone seemed very positive. A few said they could hardly see it... my first check up is on 15th Dec... i'll report back then.
Jules: that is amazing news - and i think we go to the same dentist, i was in there at 9am this morning...
R - so much easier to talk, I'm running a training course today and am keeping it in all day, my b/f didn't even notice I had it in last night until I pointed it out. Can feel it working already - ow!!

Thanks for the reply. I had one tooth that was 6mm overjet moved back.
They were loose during treatment. I finished in September. Feel a little bit sensitive sometimes - nothing awful - just different to before treatment. More the whole tooth and biting edge - not where the inter-dental filing was done.
A couple of the lowers, which were mildly crowded, were straightened with clear aligners (in about 6 weeks as they weren't that bad) are still a bit loose. E.g when I gently tap them they slightly move and feel kind of hollow.
It's just that everywhere else you read that moving the teeth too quickly is not good for them, so are Inman's safe? It's only now after treatment I'm beginning to wonder.
My dentist said to me that they would feel loose and tender after the treatment but that would settle down and would return to normal. you have me worried now
