I have the exact same situation, but my ortho just tells me that my teeth on one side have reduced (wear and tear?). I dont know if he is going to do anything about it, but it feels really weird. Does anyone here know the solution for teeth which have reduced?

You'll be surprised how quickly it all comes together. I went from having slightly overlapping front teeth to looking like Madonna.

I had a similar problem after wearing an elastic on one side only to bring a tooth down, once i stopped wearing the elastic it all pretty much went back to normal

I'm still a little lopsided. I had an adjustment on Monday and my left side bite hasn't come together like it should have so now I've got some new elastics:

The triangle elastics are to get my canines to meet together properly and the one accross the front is to move my midline which is a little off. He says that correcting it will help my bite to come together better. The front elastic doesn't need to be worn full time but I'm going to try to wear it as much as possible, and he is ok with that. There is also a small gap between my right side upper lateral and canine that he thinks should close up on its own, though its been there for a number of months and doesn't seem to be getting better. Right now my teeth are pretty sore and my right side molars don't meet any more so I'm in that 'it will get worse before it gets better' mode. Hopefully this does the job and I can get my braces off sometime in January.

"Flaring" molars/ top back teeth??

#20 Post by Koalagirl »

Hi All!

I just read the posts regarding "lopsided" teeth and am honestly relieved to know that I'm not alone on this "lopsided" issue. I feel for all of you! In my case, my front teeth are not obviously lopsided, but let me elaborate on what I'm experiencing and maybe someone might be able to give me some reassurance?

My story is that I'm 3 months into correcting a crossbite with braces only on my top teeth. My ortho and I are working to only have me wear braces on top as I am okay with my family's hereditary minor underbite and the reason I'm even correcting the crossbite is because it was unevenly wearing on my front teeth and causing them to chip. Anyway, currently, not only are my teeth lopsided if I jut my lower jaw out (an issue that almost seems secondary to my more bizarre concern), but as of my 2nd adjustment just last week, I've noticed that my bottom molars are facing way more inward as my top molars almost seem to "flare" out half way over them now. Is this possible? I'm also wearing molar buildups and realize that my bite is in an unnatural position as it is because of them, but as of this past adjustment, I can actually feel the surface of some of my bottom molars in my mouth if I run my tongue over them. Likewise, if I tilt my head backwards a bit, I can actually see half of the bottom surfaces of my top back teeth/ molars. Is this "normal"? If I were not wearing molar buildups, it would still almost appear that the outside of my bottom molars are meeting the inside of my top molars. I know I'm probably worried unnecessarily, but I do notice it's been harder to talk (more air passes through the top part of my mouth and seemingly out the sides) and it's a disconcerting feeling to be able to feel the top surfaces of some of your bottom molars with your tongue (when your mouth is closed and your jaws are clenched)! What do you think I should expect next? Is this a typical phase during crossbite correction?

Any of your shared experiences are greatly appreciated. I'm feeling a bit discouraged because I feel like my teeth are "worse" than when I started this odyssey!

Thanks in advance! :)

Oops! Sorry for the double post. (...I also thought I was starting a new message!... I'm so lame with computers!) Sorry if I'm off-topic a bit, but still, if any of you can relate or share your experiences, I'd greatly appreciated it. :)
