Finally I'm getting them @ 27 yrs old

#1 Post by QT »

Hi all I'm finally taking the plunge and getting braces! Its been years of occasional consults and deciding plus chickening out. I'm getting linguals on the top and ceramics on the bottom. I just could not face having obvious braces for 2 years! I will not be required to wear elastics (YaY!) but instead I will be using TADs. Reason my ortho said no elastics is he knows adults aren't disciplined with elastics. Is anyone else having the same technique used for their treatment? How is it going? Happy with the results?

Well, hello there, hope you're enjoying this lousy weather we're having right now.

I had your combo (lingual uppers/ceramic lowers) and was perfectly happy with it.

I'm surprised your ortho says adults are not discplined with elastics. F or my own part, I wore them exactly as prescribed and I've read many comments of others on the board who have done the same. But if you can get away without them, half your luck.

Oh yes my ortho said instead of using elastics he will use something like a wire spring which will be attached to my TADs. Does it sound familiar? He needs to correct my overbite and midline shift.

Lionfish did you finish your treatment? Were the linguals very effective?

Ah sounds good! I've been putting it off for ages too, got my 2nd appointmen t on the 15th of Dec, hopefully be braced up after Xmas. I'm gettin iBraces upper and ceramic lower also.. It's scary .. but exciting..

What are elastics for? I had braces as a teenager and never had them?

i'm 27 years old as well.... i had three consultations earlier this year but kept putting it off. I read this post today and said "that's it... i'm making the next appointment... no chickening out!" i'm very tired about thinking about my teeth all the time... its almost an obsession that's controlling my life. i have the date for my records set on january 9th for upper and lower ibraces. I'm still really scared about the speech thing especially since my upper arch is small. I was also told i would need 4 extractions and thats another reason its taken me so long to do this. I'm thinking about getting one more consultation with another ortho before this. I still can't believe i'm doing this after all these years of worrying.

Hi Junkee I'm actually 28yrs old! lol I don't know why I put 27 yrs old  it was too late to change the topic subject title lol. Yes I got sick of thinking about my teeth all the time too. Wow I'm glad my post inspired you! I'm excited, my brace date is on the 20th Dec :)) think I am getting both upper and lower put on the same day. I just had my moulds done a few days ago and that was the day I yes to my ortho, yes lets do it! I have nothing to fear as no one will see them.

Regarding the speach issue my ortho is using the latest self-ligating lingual brackets. The profile on them is low so speech problems will be minimal to none! I guess that also means faster straightening! But the longer part for me will be fixing my overbite issue and midline shift.
I'm paying the extra $$ as my ortho is highly regarded and I'm confident he will give me the best result possible for my teeth issues.

Yes, I have finished treatment, QT, and found the linguals worked fine.

Seems we have an improvement in the weather.....for the moment.

Did you ortho say what brand they were? Are they incognito/iBraces?

Hi XTC no he didn't say what brand they were, but I asked to see what they look like on the teeth model and they looked quite small in bracket size and the profile was quite low. Much smaller than the clear ceramics I'm having on my bottom teeth.
I'm so excited that I can't wait to start straightening my teeth! :) only 3 weeks to go :))

I wish I had gotten them at 28! It took 3 expensive consults over 4 years before I finally decided to get them at age 31. I remember thinking that if I gotten them 4 years prior, I would have had them off already at 31. That made me finally go for the 4th and final consult. No regrets since I know if I hadn't gotten them then that I would STILL be thinking about getting them now.
