Going for round 2

Hello I am having a dilema. I went to orhto two get my x-rrays and impressions. Now she is saying that she might not be able to help my overbite. she does not recommend surgery for the 2nd time (I don't want it anyway). What should I do now? Can I just leave her and go to someone else or talk to her some more? I am confused and need help!!

Many times a definitive diagnosis cannot be made without x-rays and impressions. Now that you have those done and paid for, you can take them to other othos and see what they say.

get some more opinions from several different orthodontists.

I had 5 consults before I picked someone, event went back to one twice (the one I ended up picking). Most orthodontists will give free consults and, now that you have xrays, you are ahead of the game.

Hopefully you will see at least 2 more. I would just be weary of the one that says he can fix it if multiple others say it's not fixable.

I am in my second treatment, 20years later. I know how you feel.

I have seen 3 orthodontists. I called the university and taked to the teacher in charge of the dental program and asked her who was the best orthodontist in town. She gave me the name of the one she feels is the best. I also met with 2 other orthos with great reputation.

I believe people with great reputation, usually deserve them. They got that reputation by making the right choices and doing the right things. Then you meet with the best and you chose the one you feel you can trust the most.

My first ortho was a dentist, with a 2-day specialty in ortho. He screwed up so many jobs he later lost his license. This guy has the worst reputation in town. Do your homework, pick the best, enjoy the results.

Regarding your overbite, a couple of questions - first is this a "deep bite" condition or other, and is it causing any pain or discomfort? Also, is your diagnosis that the problem can't be fixed, or that some correction is possible but the problem might return.

Presently, I'm on my third treatment. My new ortho just joined the practice that treated both of my kids and is highly recommended by my dentist and the ortho who had the practice originally. (Both orthos are looking at my case). He has an advanced degree (Masters) in Orthodontics and is the first person to explain why I have had a recurrent problem (a curved lower jaw bone) and also noted this as a reason that he can't guarantee the present treatment either. Since my lower teeth are injuring my upper gums, I've started treatment and feel more comfortable moving forward knowing what I'm dealing with.

I would definitely suggest looking around to get several opinions and look for more experience. Also, if your problem is related to your jaw, adult ortho treatment is less effective and more subject to relapse. In my case, I'm being treated by intruding my front lower teeth and extruding the rear to compensate for jaw curvature. This is the best that can be done as an adult.
