invisalign and teeth colour
hey all!
so i was just wondering if anyone else was having the same problem as me concerning teeth colour
i have always taken very good care of my teeth and i figured that if they wonky and not straight (before invisalign of course) then my God they were at leat going to be white! so i made sure that they stayed white (without any whitening products or treatments)
however im on tray 11 (of 23) on upper and lower and i have noticed a disticnt change in colour
my teeth have gone from very white to having a yellowish tint, i would of thought the opposite would have happened as i'm brushing 4 times a day now instead of 2
would anyone have any reasons for this or and any advice on how to solve it?
also i was just wondering if teeth whitening is possible while going through the invisalign process and if so, which one is best?
thanks in advance!

I am sorry I can't answer your question on what can help to solve it.
But aren't you getting whitening included with your Invisalign?
The reason I ask is... I have been doing alot of research into Invisalign and particularly looking at alot of different oorthodontists.
So far I have had details on about 10 different orthodontists, which all charge different prices and different things are/aren't included in the overall price. But, whitening was the one thing that was included with all of the Invisalign packages.
I am not sure where you are from. I am in the UK. And I would say that every single Invisalign provider I have contacted all included whitening.

I totally agree .... my teeth are yellowing faster than they do normally. I had them cleaned recently and they were not sparkling afterwards like they normally do. Like you, I am cleaning and caring for my teeth far more than normal.
Quite worrying considering I am only on tray 6 of 31 for the uppers!

UPDATE
UPDATE:
I had a suspicion that my discolouration was from using a lot more mouthwash. I had developed a routine of rinsing with mouthwash if I had just taken the trays out for a cup of tea. I only brushed my teeth after eating food.
So I've cut down on the mouthwash, and give my teeth a quick scrub after drinks too ..... and my teeth are definitely looking whiter again (although not back to normal). I think the biggest culprit was Dentyl mouthwash, so once I've used this bottle up I'm going to look for a non-coloured mouthwash

I was wondering about this, and I think your mouthwash theory might be right.
I have also been bleaching, using a product called nitewhite. My ortho doesn't fit attachments until tray 3 and you bleach during the first two trays. It all seems to work pretty well as far as I can see.
However, even with the bleaching I think my teeth are yellower, but maybe it's just that I am pretty obsessed with checking them constantly for changes!

hey guys thanks for all the responses! I'm glad that im not the only only one worrying/experiencing this cuz i thought i was goin crazy there for a while! lol
anyways after asking my friends for an honest answer i am 100% sure that they are definitely yellower than before to which they all agreed
so to solve the problem I'm prob gonna have whitening done after the treatment (The bring home one cuz i think the laser in office one make teeth a bit TOO white!) anyways until then I've been using pearl drops hollywood smile and although my teeth aren't AS white as they were before, there is a definite improvement!
So i guess pearl drops is a good temporary solution, anyone else have any other ideas???

I would think that you would need something stronger than pearl drops. Invisalign does yellow the teeth.parkersg wrote:hey guys thanks for all the responses! I'm glad that im not the only only one worrying/experiencing this cuz i thought i was goin crazy there for a while! lol

I have read in a couple of threads on this site about a certain type of flouride that is used in some mouthwashes can discolor your teeth. They said to watch out for stannous flouride and to stick with the ones that contain sodium flouride instead. My doc just wants me to use the flouride mouthwash once a day though. Hope this helps
Re: invisalign and teeth colour
Yes invisalign will yellow the teeth. What happens is that your soliva gets trapped in them and it causes a crazy yellow film esp in the mornings. I use THREE different kinds of toothpaste in the mornings and they still dont get that yellow stain off of them. I do not drink tea or coffee or sodas when i have them in, only water.
It is no wonder that almost every dentist out there offers cheap teeth bleaching after your invisalign treatment.
If you are good about wearing your trays than the yellowing is not so noticeable.
It has nothing to do with hygeine. I am a very clean person and i clean my trays each time i take them out and brush my teeth after every meal. Its just a strange reaction to the trays and the gap between them and your teeth where things may or may not get trapped, like soliva.

I wondered why mine seemed to be getting yellower instead of whiter too. With all the brushing I figured I'd at least stay the same. What I found out when my attachments came off for a mid-course correction was that it was the attachments that made my teeth look yellowish. I think the attachments begin to stain but, even more, the glue around them begins to stain and that is what makes the teeth look off colour. My attachments are back on now and I'm not too eager to see it happen again!
