A little discouraged...

#1 Post by Sain »

I started seriously considering invisalign last summer.
First appointment in August.
Switched orthos after getting impressions because he wasn't confident he could get results...
New impressions with the new ortho.
So I was supposed to get my aligners sometime in November.
They found a flaw in the impressions so I had to get a third set done.
I had hoped they'd get the aligners done by mid-December since I'm a student and I went home for Chrstmas...but they weren't there in time.
So my ortho decided they could mail them to me.
Uninsured.
So they got lost in the mail.
So since my ortho didn't want to suck it up and pay for them, they are using a mid-course correction as an excuse to order new ones...
Which means I had to get a fourth set of impressions.
It's been over three weeks since the fourth set of impressions.

Four sets of impressions and I haven't seen an aligner yet!!

I was supposed to start around Thanksgiving, but it's almost Valentines' Day.

I know that when I get them I'll probably want to complain about them occasionally...but seriously! I just want to get STARTED so that they can be done and over with sooner!! But the longer I have to wait for them, the later I'll finish.

*sigh*

Does anyone else have any horror stories to make me feel better? Lol.

Sorry to hear about all the trouble you've had :( Fingers crossed this works and the next set come along fine...

Sorry no horror stories about Invisalign, but I did scrape my car on a bollard in a car park this week and will have to fork out for repairs.
Initial set: 31 upper / 17 lower
1st refinement: 14 upper / 10 lower
2nd refinement: 10 upper / 5 lower

My orthos office is in another city which I can't afford to or have time to visit all the time (I live in Norway, there aren't many dentists who do Invisalign here). He had a long waiting list, I think I called in November and got an appointment to check if I was a candidate in January. Then it took a while before I could come back for impressions. And then he forgot to take an impression of my bite, so I had to come back again - which I couldn't do for about a month or so.

When the aligners finally arrived I was away on a business trip, and when I came back the dentist office was closed for the summer. When the ortho came back from his vacation, I was away on mine! So I started mid-August.

I didn't worry about it too much though, it kinda felt good just that the wheels were in motion. I'd been wanting to do something with my teeth for 10 years, and felt that I could wait a little bit longer now that I knew I was actually doing something about it.

And when they came on, time flew! I am now over halfway, and it's been a great experience. I might have been finished now if it wasn't for this and that, but.. I haven't really thought of that, actually. It takes the time it has to take (that was probably a terrible translation of a norwegian saying), and I'm not in a hurry.

Sorry about your bad luck, but be glad that you've started!
Not on the aligners, but... hehe.. on the journey? Good luck :)

Thanks you two.

Yeah, I was a little bummed out when this week went by too...but it does help knowing that I'm not the only one that's had it take a long time. anastasia, you have admirable patience!! I'm out of town for the weekend, so even if they come in, I won't be able to pick them up for a while. Hopefully the experience of waiting ages for things to get rolling will make the time that they're on go by even faster.

Anyway, I'll try to be more patient about the situation. I just had this goal in mind of being done with invisalign before graduating university...and that might not happen if it's delayed any more :) But oh well.
