I think everyone has their WTF moment(s). It is a big decision, a pretty long commitment and somewhat of a temporary sacrifice in certain aspects. I can't say from my own experience that I know it is worth it. I am still in the very beginning of treatment but at this point I do not think I have made a mistake in doing this.

Anyway, your thoughts are totally normal and I have no doubts that in the end it will have all been worth it. You will not regret it! Just try to keep a positive attitude and that should help. ***I am working on my own as well.*** :D

Good Luck and I hope you come back to share your story!

Hey, good lock today! let us know how it goes! You'll feel weird at the beginning but you won't regret getting braces! You'll soon see changes and it will be worth it, even if with the pain and discomfort and all you often think it is not!

Plus don't let braces affect your self-esteem or social life at all, you'll notice that most people just don't care if you have braces or not and the few people that do care is either because they had braces or are considering getting braces themselves.

I was a wreck before I got my braces on for the second time. My appointment was after lunch and the day sort of dragged until I walked into the ortho's office. Once it was all said and done, I thought to my self it was no big deal. I'm at my 13 month bracesavery today and coming to the home stretch. The time went by very quickly!

Good luck with your appointment today!

My regrets started with the spacers lol!

I was in tears thinking, why am I torturing myself??

But looking back there are NO regrets. The only regret is not doing it sooner!

The issue I am going to have to confront is the fact that I am quite happy with my smile right now (prior to brace round 2). It's perfectly fine, except for some minor overlap on a couple of teeth. However, my mis-aligned bite and asymmetric jaw is destroying my gums, slowly but surely. My ortho has given me an estimate of 20-26 months + jaw surgery.

And I won't even look any better afterwards! Okay, that mild overlap will be fixed, but I didn't have a problem with it to begin with.

hi soniabaldeo,

it's normal to be scared before being braced. I remember having second thoughts myself. But then I also remembered why I went to see an ortho in the first place. So the choice was between remaining unhappy with crooked teeth or doing something about the problem.

In a way I was fortunate to have extractions prior to being braced. After extractions there is really no going back  It actually made me look forward and although there are days when I feel frustrated about being in braces, I have never regretted my decision about braces. I know that it will be worth it! :-} :-*

Good luck!
