Call me crazy, but I actually want my teeth to move back to their original position! Though only the back molars on the top arch.
To understand my mad wish, you have to know that I had a fuller face before braces with full cheeks. But the top molars in the back were winging out. As soon as the ortho began to reign these teeth in, i slowly saw my face/cheeks become more and more sunken in, hollow, thin-looking. and I was certain it was because of the molars being reigned into the arch of the wire. My ortho scratched his head and said he didn't know what was causing the sunken in look. I told him it was because of the top back molars, again and again. but he was resistant to that idea. Even had the nerve to say that i was hitting 30 and it could be aging! Come on, here I am, with my self confidence pretty low because of my sunken in face and here, you're telling me my face is aging and sagging!
So I finally convinced him to cut the wires on the back molars and to allow for then to re-lapse to have a fuller face again. But they were in the arch wire for 6 months and they are not moving back to their original position. Will they ever move back to their original position? How can I help it along?
Anyone have a similar experience?
All I can say is before you get braces, ask your ortho how it will change your FACIAL/PROFILE structure as well as teeth structure. and if the ortho can't answer you, find another one. A good ortho should know more than the correct bite, they should know the aesthetic/cosmetic effects of braces!

Totally agree to ask about the result on your external features and profile! I'm trying to avoid extractions because I like my reasonably full lips and prominent teeth. They balance out my big nose and chin ... I'd end up looking very witchy if my arches were a lot smaller.
Initial set: 31 upper / 17 lower
1st refinement: 14 upper / 10 lower
2nd refinement: 10 upper / 5 lower

Many people notice a change in their face - some like it, some don't, but it's been mentioned here viewtopic.php?t=28667 that it may just look that way because your lips are puffing out a bit more from your braces.
