I have ceramic on top and metal on bottom. I think that if I had to do it again I'd probably get metal on both, only because the ceramic stick out more and are a little bigger width-wise.

Hoo my god, this one is definitly too good to forget it.

I will go for metal personnally, at least you cant hide them and people dont need to stare 5minutes at your teeth to figure what is on them.

ortho called them 'mini' metal brackets, both top and bottom
2/2/09: metal braces T/B
8/20/10: braced removed (18mons, 18days), hawley retainers T/B
9/16/10: LR central incisor extracted (failed root canal)
2/23/11: implant/bone graft
9/15/11: implant crown placed, lower lingual bonding corrected
9/21/11: upper bonding on lateral gaps from upper arch forward advancement
10/17/11: new hawley retainers w/plastic tubing over the 'social six' wire, both T/B

I have all metal...i just could not see paying extra for something that the "cheaper" ones would do the same job....mind you not saying the brackets are cheaper but i just would not fork out the extra money

Ceramic top and bottom (metal on the back molars). It wasn't that much more expensive here and for 18-24 months of my life- worth it! My lower teeth show just as much as uppers when I talk, so no point having metal on the bottom. The ceramics do seem to have sharp edges tho, especially the bits that stick out on the canines for attaching elastic bands.

The little elastic ligatures did go yellow on the first day each time (that's tea drinking for ya) but most months I've had wire ligatures instead to move the teeth more.

I'm not convinced ceramics are slower, both top and bottom teeth looked almost perfect after 3-4 months! And they had been really wonky/crowded. I'm no spring chicken either, in my 30s, aren't they supposed to take longer to move as you get older?

Ceramic on my 'social 8' (love that phrase!). I'll be getting metal on the lowers in a couple of months.

Have a bite plate in for now, in preparation, and will be quite happy to lose those sssssssssibilant esses!

I didn't really consider asking about less visible option in the beginning. My ortho said she was using smaller metals with a little "door" on them, and I went with it. I think they are In-Ovations, but not 100% sure. She said that I really need the smaller ones especially for my bottom since I have worn them down so bad (they are not very wide either) and she still had trouble fitting them on my teeth. I have wished that I didn't have the self-ligating just to get some weird and funky colors put on. (I still get to choose the powerchain color, though!!) I like the metal, no one has to ask if I have braces, very obvious. Kinda strange for a 30 something woman to want people to see them, but I do get asked for ID for just about everything again! Makes me feel like a kid again. I have been asking about switching over to invisaligns or red, white & blues soon though. But that is only because I have had these things on so long, my whole mouth hurts (teeth, gums, cheeks, tongue, jaws) and I REALLY need a good cleaning and stain removal, possibly some fillings, who knows since I haven't been able to get an x-ray in 3 1/2 years. Getting tired of them, it happens.

I didn't really ask because it wouldn't work with my treatment. I've got all metals top and bottom. (3mx) I read that the clear brackets are a little larger that the metals too.
