What did your ortho "give" you?

Love your electric toothbrush? Hate that yucky mouthwash? Can't live without that terrific threader floss? Got a fave canker sore remedy? Here's where you can post your opinions and reviews of specific products relating to dental hygiene and your braces. Tell others what works....and what doesn't!

Mine was all packed into a water bottle, except for the large tube of fluoride gel:

V-Trim Dual Headed Toothbrush (with the little spiral brush on the other end)
V-Trim Travel Toothbrush
Small spool of mint-flavored floss
Little plastic hourglass timer, 3 minutes
Paper packet of floss threaders
Little plastic box of wax
Dental mirror-on-a-stick
Travel spiral brush

And two of those "disclosing tablets" that turn your plaque funny colors. These are purple, and the instructions say that they turn your old plaque red, your new plaque blue. Horrors!

i got a great price first off! $3000! but i got a cool travel/work bag thats purple, a toothbrush, a christmas tree brush, wax, threaders, floss and a sand timer.
and i am really nice to the nurses, and when i ask for more stuff, they fill my pockets with it. (asked for another xmas tree, she gave me like 5 of them)
i actually really like my ortho. and i go to western dental, the dentist of the poor, the drive through of dentists. i love them.

jpiper, that's great! Just goes to show that you don't have to spend a fortune (relatively) to get service you're happy with. That's a refreshing idea, these days! :)

It just occurred to me: these "v-trim" brushes are actually just normal brushes with tapered point instead of a rectangle-shaped end. I thought "v-trim" was going to mean there was a V cut out of the middle of the bristles, so they could brush above and below my braces at the same time? Does anybody have that, or did I dream it up?

Hello! i've only had braces on since November the 3rd, a week ago.

I got:

-A plain looking yellow toothbrush
-A little case of wax (I've already used up half of the case in 1 week)
-a sample of antiseptic oral cleanser
-a sample of Phos-Flur Anticavity Dental Rinse (A sodium flouride rinse- I will probably get some more)
-Some regular floss (I use my super floss that I bought before I got the braces! But since I'm cheap I'll probably switch once it runs out)
-A floss threader
-A mini little pipe-cleaner type thing. Compact and fits nicely in my purse in case I need to clean any food out of the brackets. A nice little tool!
-Got put in some drawing, i dont even remember what it was for.
-Also, what I paid for includes the cost of a retainer.

And that was it. I paid around 3K US dollars for mine and I will be wearing them for a little less than a year and a half.

Besides getting a bunch of laughs, I got quite a few things...

--A bunch of pamphlets with information related to topics ranging from drinking carbonated drinks to how to use floss threaders
--A complimentary pack of 10 floss threaders (which I can't live without)
--A container of floss
--A mini toothbrush that I can use while I'm out and about
--A toothbrush that has a mini bristle thingee that you use to brush between my brackets
--A large bristle thingee that fulfills the same purpose as above
--An extra bristle
--Two small containers of wax
--A nifty little travel container to put all that stuff in
--A bottle of water
--And finally, a t-shirt :)

I am very pleased and was very spoiled by the end of my visit!
Braced (upper and lower): 10/29/08
Debraced: 3/17/10
Now sportin' a permanent bottom retainer
Alternate clear retainers every 12 hours

I go to a dental/ortho college for my treatment, so nothing fancy here:

-a laminated no-no list with suction cup hanger
-a laminated list of horrors (people chewing on pens/ chewing ice/ eating caramel) also with a suction cup hanger
-a box of unflavored GAC wax
-2 different kinds of floss, self-threading and Oral-B SatinTape (my new love!)
-1 pack of floss threaders
- a single Oral-B interdental brush
-1 small glass bottle of (expired) Listerine mouthwash (they pre-package this stuff months in advance, so I'm sure it was an honest mistake)
-a free *pink* (yay!) Oral-B V shaped soft bristle toothbrush which, to this day, I still prefer to my Oral-B Triumph (which I still haven't bought an orthodontic brush head for, so I can't really judge which is better yet...)
-little blue bubblegum flavored plaque-revealing tabs, which I have run out of and it makes me sad. I miss my super blue tongue!
-1 small tube of crest toothpaste

I would complain that I didn't get a sweet care package, but altogether my treatment cost me $3300, which, in itself, is quite an awesome deal.

Regular toothbrush
Travel toothbrush
Floss threaders
Coffee mug
Magnet with foods to avoid
Laminated brushing/flossing guide
Little wax containers
Lip balm
nasty red drops to show where plaque is. I put the recommended amount of drops under my tongue, and my whole mouth turned red. :?:
An athletic mouth guard (they have a lot of teens in sports at the practice)
Little interdental brushes (I LOVE these).
Probably some more stuff I forgot.
All the stuff was in a drawstring backpack.

Looks like I got jipped! Only recieved:
travel toohbrush, wax, toothpaste, floss and threaders, and a cheap plastic travel bag that broke in 3 weeks. Booklet of the dos and don't too. Not much compared to others, hope that isn't any indication of the final outcome when i get these suckers off.

I guess there's a discrepancy in goodies between the North and South, and the Midlands then!
