bruise/swelling healing time question

#1 Post by mjd0210 »

Hey everyone,

I'm new here and I hope I'm not reposting a topic, but I couldn't find anything on this.

anyway, I had upper jaw surgery (leforte I) 7 days ago. they moved my upper jaw forward about 7mm. Overall I'm pretty happy about the surgery, although I had some bleeding problems the night after the surgery in the hospital. So now I'm pretty bruised: a couple of black eyes, some random small bruises on my face and a bruised lip. The swelling has gone done a lot, but I was wondering how long I should expect the bruises to be there and when my lips will look normal again.

Oh yeah, and i've got a great yellow tinge to my whole face right now :-P

You sound exactly like me...I bruised so bad that my OS referred me to a hematologist to get checked out. They haven't found anything yet after running a couple of tests, and something tells me they won't. I go back in a few months for more tests so that we can try and get some more information in advance of my second surgery in 2010.

My entire family (both sides) bruise easily, and it takes forever for them to go away. It doesn't help that I have a fair complexion as well. I am about 1 month post op from SARPE & MSDO and I'd say 98% of the bruising is gone. I still have a fairly large spot on my chest where the bruising cruised down due to the wonderful effects of gravity. It is that gross yellow that you refer to. But it is finally pretty much gone from my face.

Some people lose the bruising quickly, but I'm one who has it for weeks. I guess it all depends on each individual. I wouldn't worry about it unless you feel it is uncommon based on your specific history. If you feel that is the case, a call to your primary physician may not hurt anything.

Sorry, but as I re-read the post I noticed you said you are only 7 days post-op. I wouldn't worry about ANYTHING unless the bruising is still very prevalent after the 2 or 3 week mark. What you are experiencing now is absolutely normal.

Sorry if I may have inadvertently alarmed you...

hey there, i took vitamin C and drank plenty of water, walked just about every day and found it helped with the bruising and swelling also. It took 2 weeks for the bruising to go away completely for me.. and that includes the bruses i had from the needles and iv in my arms... Wish you luck with your recovery!
