HAPPY BRACE DAY my Brace Buddy!!!!!!!macgirl4ever wrote:I have a small journal named MacGirl4Ever's Journal. My spacers were taken out this week so I now have molar bands on four of my second to the last back molars. My class is torn between hot pink "because it's cute", green "for St. Patty's Day" and blue "because it's _____'s favorite color". The final vote is on Monday. I only had my spacers in for three days but I had the same experience with sudden sensitivity. Just think, we only have two and a half days!!!

Oh I am definetely staying positive! I dont think there's a girl that's more excited or counting her blessings more than me right now!shinyRiver wrote:I totally understand. Younger kids have this kind of innocent curiosity, and it can even be funny when they ask about teeth in need of orthodontic attention... But older kids can be just plain mean.Dreams wrote:It's painful when I work in classrooms with older children - that's why I can't wait till the braces are put on - so everyone can SEE that I'm in the process of getting them all fixed.
Before I was braced, my boyfriend's 6 year-old niece asked about my "vampire fang" in front of my boyfriend's whole family, and I almost died of embarrassment, but instead I told her "It's just extra. I have too many teeth. I used to tell kids that I was half-vampire but they started getting scared." And she said "I wouldn't have been scared, you could have just told me!" It was so funny. But I remember when I was like 16 (I'm almost 22 now) and I threw my head back and laughed at a then-friend's funny joke, and he saw that same fang as it was just coming in and exclaimed "Oh god, what's wrong with your teeth?!" And thus began about 5 years of self-conscious smirking so as to hide my teeth... But no more!
Just remember, once you are braced, your teeth will NEVER BE CROOKED AGAIN! Whenever anyone says anything about your missing teeth, just remember that you will have a hollywood smile when your treatment is finished, and no one will be able to say anything except "Wow, your teeth are gorgeous!" Plus, in between now and the time you get debraced, your smile is going to be all a-glitter and aglow with shiny metal and flashy ligs- a girl's dream, mirite?! So let them stare!
Stay positive- this is an exciting time in our lives! And if there's ever a forum contest for "most improved smile" I can tell already you will win, hands down! Your smile is going to be gorgeous when you are finished, and I'm so excited for you!
Thanks so much for sharing your story! Isn't it exciting to think of the journey we're on - and to think that our smiles will look SO good!!!!
Even with just the restorative work done, I smile with my mouth WIDE open. I know what it's like to have such awful teeth and feel ashamed/embarassed. My teeth are just crooked now, but they are healthy - and I have a LOT to smile about.
Once I get braced today, I don't think I'll be able to wipe the erma-grin off my face!

2 1/2 hours, then I hopped out of the chair and drove like mad to make it in time for my presentation I had to give in class.
It went GREAT. The only time it hurt was when they were dealing with the metal bands. Other then that, just one time because when they dry the teeth out, it can make then sensitive, and she touched one tooth and felt like I had a cavitiy shooting raw pain up through the root of the tooth. I was like, "Uhmmm No don't have cavities! That tooth NEVER hurts - and not ONCE before you touched it!" She said it could be bc of being so dry.
Anyways, enough of that.
I'm SO excited!!!!
The teeth didn't start aching my last class last night (Aching = productive = good!!!!) . I just took some ibuprofen then - hadn't taken any before that...
I got home from school and the boys were SO excited to see my new tin grin.
They stared forever inside.
Oh and I got pink elastics and power chains.
Feel like Mr. Ed when I smile, because I can't smile small - my lip gets snarled on all the metal. SO I have to smile BIG and WIDE - which I have a LOT of reasons to now!..
Just when someone smiles at you in class, you know how you'll politely return their smile? No small subtle smiles... So I have to smile like him every time --->>>....
In order to adjust things, they had to add composite to build up my far back molars, so depending on the moment (I swear my bite is changing that mny times that fast...lol) I *might* have those back teeth touch - though often I only have the back right one touching - which means I am going to be eating on just one tooth surface for now.
I mentioned to the girls in the office that I was excited. They said, "We couldn't tell at ALL." I said, "Yeah, I'm really not at ALL excited. I've only been waiting for this day all of my life." They said they're as excited as I am, though I really don't think that's possible!
Because of my gogogo schedule yesterday I didn't get to *attempt* to eat until last night - and I settled for some sugar free pudding. I hadn't aten since the day before. No way did I feel brave enough to try anything that wasn't very soft - a banana would have been too hard, unless I mashed it up - and I decided the pudding would be just fine.

The assistant laughed and said that I was getting the works and that I would know what most everything there was, bc there my treatment I was going to have most of it...lol
I have two power chains. She said that they don't ever usually put power chains on, when they first add the braces. Though they are being aggressive with my treatment and want to get things moving as soon as they can!
I have a "button" on a tooth that is creeping out the roof of my mouth, behind another tooth - it's hooked to help pull it down.

I would love to figure out one of the tickers for home long I've been braced! I can't seem to get it right...
I go back in on April 1st.
Oh and they used copper - and I also have tubing over the wire, where it breaches the canyons from the two extrction sites..lol

You can see the power chains and the tubing over the wire, as it expands over the great gaps from the extractions.
What's interesting is that on the left side, the power chain is literally wrapped around the tubing multiple times before it was hooked.
These pics were just with my phone. I'm charging my camera battery, then will post better pictures!

This might sound funny, but if I had a teething ring, I would use it.... Hahah! Seriously, the pressure seems to help bring some relief.
My sister mentioned to me that they make teething rings for puppies and I could use one of those, because all the hardware in my mouth shouldn't be able to puncture what puppy teeth can't. *laugh*

Brace Buddy!
I found that if I can cut it small, I can eat. If I don't cut, I can't eat. Anything. At all!!!! You're lucky you get powerchains already! I just got an archwire in both the upper and lower jaw that is suppose to rotate my teeth. I just can't seem to get photos to post here so here's the link to my blog that has a few pictures (not nearly as impressive as yours!)
