I had a look at your blog because I'm about to be referred to NHS surgeons with the same bizarre "we'll pay for it but only if you want massively invasive treatment" after the private orthodontist decided that anything other than a minor cosmetic improvement would need surgery. But are the waiting lists really that long? I was told that it would take a couple of months to get in to see a surgeon, but maybe there's another, longer waiting list after they decide you can go ahead with treatment. It could be that different health boards (and no offence, but I'm praying I'm not in the same area as you if yours has such a long wait) have different waiting times, but I'd be interested to know what the process of getting your name on the list is like.
