I did it! I'm proud of myself...

:)

Well, I got braced up (bottom jaw damons) yesterday. I couldn't sleep with nerves for about a week beforehand. I got very drunk on Saturday because of the stress and I really did not think I would go through with it yesterday.

First impressions;

1. Noone has noticed. Immediately after I got them I went to an Easter egg hunt where there was a 14 year old who had also just got braces. I said nothing about mine and I know noone noticed because everyone was talking about braces all night long. I kept meaning to say "look at me, I got them too!" but I didn't want to steal the 14 year old's thunder.

2. The feeling is weird; sore but not painful if that makes sense.

3. I am excited and proud of myself for doing something I chickened out of 5 years ago. Now, 3 kids later, I now have better perspective :lol:

I also just want to say that the support and information on this forum is superb. Thank you.

Congrats! You mention damons on your lower arch - but what about the top? Do you not need braces on top arch?

Thanks y'all. Beth, the reason why I have only got the lower arch is that my teeth are much more crowded on my lower jaw. The ortho wants to give them six months head-start before she puts on the upper brackets. I am delighted to be given the time to get used to wearing braces before I get the uppers. The lowers are almost invisible - the uppers will be a lot more obvious.

Thanks guys. I feel pretty good about the decision to get braced up now. No more stress-relating drinking (BTW I was on a trip away for the weekend with my sisters - my kids did not see my drunkenness! :oops:)

Sweetie no one's judging you- the day I had mine removed I needed distraction while waiting so I obsessively did about 5 loads of laundry then took plenty of valium- worried over nothing, I didn't feel a thing!

I also hit the bottle that weekend- in celebration- you have that to look forward to :D

I can't even think about the finish line right now. But one advantage of getting braces as a 30-something is that time goes by much much faster now than it did when I was 15!
