Nose job and NHS Question
Hello everyone,
I had my upper/lower braces fixed at the beginning of Jan this year. So far they are moving pretty well though I am concerned about my front tooth as it seems to be moving up into the gum more than the one next to it?!
My ortho tells me I will be in braces 15 months then the surgery. Well since reading around on this messageboard, I am beginning to think it will be much longer!? My appointments are not every 6 weeks as they should be so I know I am looking at a much longer haul here.
I have a long face shape, a recessive chin and severe openbite (about 14mm) which makes eating a royal pain in the ass. The surgeon tells me once I have the surgery, my face will shorten by 1/3 and I will overall have a much more balanced look.
However, they told me about the changes to people's noses. I hate my nose. Its wide when I smile and slightly tilts to the left. Its just horrible and I have always wanted a nosejob. The surgeon didn't think anything would happen to my nose but I don't believe him.
Does the NHS do free nose jobs if the jaw surgery messes it up or should I voice my concerns now and see if they can do it at the same time?
Many thanks xxx

hey i had a underbite corrected over Nhs my surgeon actually mentioned i might benefit from getting my nose done along with surgery but it was the day before
after surgery i i grew to like my nose alot more but had always wanted my nose done as the swelling went down i started to hate my nose again so at a follow up appointment brought it up and i had it done over the nhs on the 18th of march about a month after i brought it up
so it was done without hassel i would suggest just to ask your surgeon if its common practice where you live to do rhynoplasty along with the jaw operation cause i think it is in glasgow

I had surgery to try and correct my openbite and yes it can change your nose. You should bring up your concerns next time you see the surgeon. They would probably fix it if you really don't like the result post-surgery.
You can only ask!
freerideuk, so how's the new snuffler then, hope it's healing well?

Hey,
That sounds so upsetting but I am sure it is just the swelling and you will notice a huge difference once it's gone down!!
Was that on the NHS?
I am really scared about it now - My nose face on is quite narrow but when I smile, it really broadens.
I have only had my braces on nearly 3 months, should I try and speak to the surgeon now about this?
Thanks so much for all your replies xxx

Trust me it's DEFINITELY the swelling. What precisely did they do, do you know? My nose looked drastically different because the shape was changed, but the tip was also narrowed and you couldn't tell this for at LEAST a month after surgery, maybe longer. I wasn't particularly taken by my nose for a while because it was so swollen and I thought the new one looked just as big as the old. Now it loks great and I can tell they narrowed it, reshaped, etc etc, now that the swelling has gone down in the nose itself and on either side of my nose. Give it some more time;)
How does the tip of your nose feel? three months out and mine still feels a little firm or swollen in the tip. Just FYI, you got a ways to go still before you should start comparing to the old

Hi Redfoxjo,
I see you are having your surgery at Liverpool. I had upper and lower surgery at Fazakerley/Aintree by Mr Richardson. When you see the surgeon voice your concerns about your nose and ask him if there is anything he can do about it while you are under. What you see a big problem may not be to a surgeon.
Feel free to pm or ask any questions
