I know spacers get a lot of bad press around here, but i found the first couple of weeks after being braced worse then spacers. Neither was that bad though and i never missed a meal or anything. The worst part about all of it to me is the canker sores, though i am to the point now where i rarely get them and if i do they are only minor.

all Im going to say is good luck! :)
I hated spacers more than anything... and I didnt know they were going to hurt me as bad as they did so I never had my last "FINAL" meal therefore I am waiting for my FIRST REAL meal - so my advice is eat something you really LIKE that you know is on the NO NO list after braces...
Spacers: 8 - 4 top, 4 bottom on 04.04.09
Braced on: 04.09.09
Sentence: 18-24 Months

I just got my braces put on this past Wednesday and they didn't put any spacers in at the records appointment the prior week. Well, they put them in the same day I got braced. :x My teeth are so tightly packed together that it took several tries to get them in and it was very uncomfortable. I have to wear them for four weeks until my first adjustment. :( I wouldn't say they hurt, but it is uncomfortable. Just keep envisioning your gorgeous smile when all of this is over!

Ugh! Four weeks! I really wish you the best with those spacers for so long. I only had mine in for 5 days and I was miserable. I hope for your sake that they are not as bad for you.

I GET BRACES ON MONDAY TOO!!!! =]

Sorry, I've been excited forever. hehe.

I got my spacers on Wednesday, and let me tell you.. I want to rip those suckers out!

I haven't been able to eat, and it's making my bottom teeth more crowded than they are to begin with. =\

I almost yanked them out, and canceled Mondays appointment. I love my food. =]

32withbraces- looks like we'll be going through this process together!

Im getting spacers on Tuesday and Braces on the 28th!

I really just want to get this whole thing going! reading all about spacers is making me really nervous. I want to be able to eat at memorial day bbq's!

I had braces when I was younger, yet cannot remember the whole spacer process.

I'm 26 and I am getting the ceramic braces for up to 12 months. I have an overbite and what i call a snaggle tooth.

look forward to hearing back on how youre doing!

Well, I won't lie, spacers are horrid. I found that they didn't particularly hurt me apart from when I wanted to eat anything.
The worst thing was definitely that I could hardly eat anything except ice cream and soup.
I was ravenous by the end of the week.
So in my opinion, it's not the spacers themselves that hurt but that fact you can't eat anything remotely solid which is the real bug bear.

Good luck.
