Anyone had their brackets fall off suddenly?

#1 Post by JHova »

I was eating and heard a crunch, which turned out to be my bracket falling off. kinda mad that they had broke off so easily. I have to take a trip to the ortho tomorrow, i guess their going to fix it? Is this typical to happen during the first few weeks of being braced?

I broke off a molar bracket about 6 months into treatment. Ate a piece of chicken and bit into it the wrong way. Call the ortho in the morning and see what they want you to do. You're going to have to schedule an appointment to have it repaired.

been there done that many of times...however, each time it was not due to me doing anything wrong, but the fact that my teeth were rotated and the force being applied to move them broke the bond from the bracket and my teeth.

Two of mine fell off in the first week of being on. They were on my molars. They glued them back on and I haven't had an others come off since - knock on wood.

I had 9 of the first 10 brackets fall off in the first week. Found out they were put on wrong somehow. Not sure if they missed a step, or didn't sand them down enough before they put them on. Since they were reapplied, I have only had one break loose (probably the last of the original 10) in 3 1/2 years. My ortho did tell me that it is not uncommon for a couple to come off early in treatment for a number of reasons, some being the patients fault, some for bad bonding, and some for no apparent reason.

I had 2 ping off the first evening. My ortho just glued them stright back on the next day (not so nice as my teeth were hyper sensitive by then...) All stayed put since then...

I had my first one break off a few days ago (I'm 6 months in).
This was totally my fault. I was chomping down on some really crusty pizza which my ortho has told me time and time again not to eat.

I rang her office the next morning and the assistant got me to describe which bracket it was and asked if I was any discomfort (I'm not) and said it would be ok to leave til my adjustment which is in 2 days. I really hope it hasn't set my progress back. The pizza wasn't even that good!

So the moral of the story is to respect the no-no list... :(

None have fallen off yet - KNOCKING on wood as well

but I am always so scared that they will. But then again I do not respect the NO NO list completely - I just got tired and fed up of the DO not eat this list.

So if that means eventually I will have one or two fall off then OH WELL

Im not going to sacrifice everything I love to eat just cut it up and eat it in small pieces :D

My bracket just fell off while I was brushing my teeth last night. It was the molar bracket on the bottoms. I hope the wire stays put because I got about an inch and a half of wire sticking out. If it get to be a problem, I'll just put some wax on it or cut it off. I'll be going to the ortho on Monday to have it glued back on. (Bracket was on my crowned tooth)
