Sugarless Gum and Braces

#1 Post by hadfield »

Has anyone tried to chew gum with braces? When I first had my braces put on the ortho mentioned that he might even get me to chew some sugarless gum. I guess it helps to loosen the teeth so that they can move. I have not ventured to try this yet. Would the gum get stuck in some of the brackets?

I have started chewing sugar-free gum and haven't found a problem. I've only had my braces 2 weeks, but now the sensitivity of my teeth has settled down, I;ve started chewing gum...

My ortho has given me gum a few times when he knew my teeth were going to be really tight/sore from adjustments. I chew gum occasionally and I've never had a problem.

Most gum out there is sugar free in general, except gum like bubbalicious.. (from what i've noticed)

I chew orbit, and it has worked wonders.

Now i've only had braces for 2 1/2 weeks. I chewed it in teh very beginning when my teeth were very sore, and it helped my mouth get .. unsore. If that makes any sense.

It doesn't get stuck in my bracekts at all. A lot of people have mentioned freedent, or gums that are recommended for dentures. But as far as I know. I'd just stay away from those sugary gums.
