Pain Question - Please Help!

#1 Post by Lo »

Hi everyone,

I just got my ceramic braces last Friday (June 12th), for now I only have them on the top due to an overbite problem. I have to say I have been pretty lucky with my whole experience and have not had to take any Tylenol, Advil, etc. There has only been a slight soreness, but enough to the point that I couldn't chew for a couple of days. My molars (that do not really need moved) have stopped hurting; however, my front 6 teeth (which need the most movement) are still a little sore. Is it natural to have a little sensitivity still, even after it's been almost a week?

Thank you!

It's been exactly a week for me and some of my teeth are still slightly sore when I eat. The soreness is lessening though. Some teeth are not sore anymore and honestly it almost makes me feel like they should be sore so that I can be assured that something is moving and changing!

I don't have ceramic braces, but I shared your same experience. It didn't hurt so much...my teeth were just sore and sensitive. It'll only last a few more days. By the end of the second week, your mouth should have adjusted. When I first got braced, I ate puddings and stuff with a very comfortable texture. I moved up to spaghetti and meatballs out of the can. I gradually was able to eat burgers, chicken, stuff like that again. Hang in there a little longer and welcome to the world of braces!
Braced (upper and lower): 10/29/08
Debraced: 3/17/10
Now sportin' a permanent bottom retainer
Alternate clear retainers every 12 hours

I couldn't eat anything really tough for a few weeks because my teeth hurt and felt "weak"! It's totally normal to still be sore! it gets a lot better now; y last two adjustments didn't hurt at all :)

burgers, chicken---------only a dream for me!! After 5 weeks I have yet to bite into any type of sandwich item!! Like takako my teeth feel so wobbly, loose and just week. I can't say I am back to normal yet

went for my first adjustment today---square wire on the tip to begin to bring my front teeth in (they are very flared out!!) so, the assistant said--I am very sorry, this is not going to be a comfortable few months for you. :-(( :-(( :-(( :-(( :-((

so, it's different for everyone, be glad it's not worse for you!!

I'm sorry to hear your experience is much more uncomfortable! I remember feeling a bit scared at one point because I felt my teeth and they too felt wobbly. I thought they were all going to fall out! They told me that that was normal, though. It just means that they're shifting as planned :) I hope that you'll be able to eat a burger soon! Got my fingers crossed for ya!

My teeth had that achy moving feeling (still had trouble eating) for about a month after I got braced, it felt better just in time for my extractions, then of course they started moving again. They have felt better for the last week or so, I go for my first adjustment next week. :-+ I'm hoping that this means that things will be done quicker than anticipated...
04/09/09- Consult, 04/21/09- Spacers in, 04/23/09- Braces on, 06/01/09- Extractions
06/25/09- First Adjustment (new wire, but same size- all the way to bck molars- after extractions)
08/20/09- Second adjustment (same size wire but got Powerchains top and bottom!!!)
10/02/09- 3rd adj (same size wire, new powerchain, started elastics)
12/10/09- 4th adj. (same size wire, new powerchain, same elastics)
02/11/10- 5th adj.

Always for about a week after the archwire has been played with. And anytime I eat a wrong meal after about an hour I feel it. Just one of those brace things you learn to endure.
