I don't have any cavities (just been to dentist), and my bottom teeth are all pretty sensitive to cold right now. I stopped wearing my rubber bands because I don't want any damage to happen to my roots or something as I have always had pretty sensitive teeth anyway.
I see that a lot of you recommend sensitive-teeth toothpaste, and I'm sure that will help to an extent, but I'm just wondering what does sensitive teeth mean (when you know it's not a cavity).

from my experience i had really sensitve teeth quite some time ago. it would kinda sting when I would drink anything really really cold or anything really really warm. once I started using sensodyne the problem seemed to slowly get better and now i hardly have any sensitivity in that area. my teeth do get a little bit sensitive after an adjustment but that goes away quick.

A couple of days after getting the archwires changed I ate some cold apple sauce (straight from the refrigerator) and just about dropped dead in my tracks. For a few seconds the pain was astounding. Bit after a few more days things settled back to normal. Having learned my lesson, post adjustment now I just slightly warm things in a microwave before eating them . I've also had a restaurant warm cheesecake for me - no big deal just ask them.

I had temporary cold sensitivity that lasted a few days, but eventually went away. I think it's because your teeth are moving in a new direction, exposing your nerves in a new way that takes a few days to adjust to. I don't think the issue is whether it's due to the braces or the elastics; it's due to new movement of the teeth.eveningninja wrote:I guess the difference for me is that the pain was not going away after only a few days and it seems to have been because of my elastics, not the braces themselves.
Call your orthodontist's office to see what they say.

I recently had a shooting pain under my gumline that woke me from my sleep 2 nights in a row. It freaked me out but didnt happen again until just today when I was drinking a cold drink. I am in really tight bands and can only think its from them. I hate it though! I've never really had sensitive teeth before.
