help..need recommendations for a good london orthodontist

Hi group

I am going to embark on pre-surgical orthodontics prior to upper and lower jaw orthognathic surgery.

So far i have seen a harley st based ortho, and was quoted Â£6000 for damon braces and Â£9000 for incognito lingual braces, based on a year and half of treatment. Those figures seem high to me, compared to other cases i have read about.

Please can anyone with recommendations for a london based orthodontist , with pre-surgical expertise either post or pm me. My max facs is hesitant to recommend anyone besides the guy he always works with.

I'm seeing an orthopaedic/jaw joint specialist ortho in Surrey (near Leatherhead), and I'm paying Â£7500 for a year of non-surgical arch expansion with removable orthopaedic appliances (now complete), followed by 12-18 months of fixed appliances (thought if was gonna be Damon's but is conventional in reality - makes no difference to me), and then I've got 4-6 months of "bite correction" - fancy gizmo's that probably do a similar job to elastics in truth, but they'll fix my iffy TMJ. I'll look like I'm wearing an American football helmet in my mouth though

Anyway, I think I'm paying over the odds a bit, but not by a huge amount. I'd say that your quotes aren't bad, maybe a bit high considering treatment length - but I'd be worried about how much the surgery will cost, and how much the post-surgical ortho treatment is (as I'm sure it will be necessary, if only to finalise positioning). Try to look at the entire process as one cost, and then work out if it's viable

I've gone to a private clinic on Wimpole St, W1. My ortho is called Dr Gill and according to my dentist was the bees knees at uni. He took impressions of my teeth and rearranged them to show what they'd be like after extractions and braces which was great to see. Cost is Â£3900 for self-ligaing braces but don't forget extra costs like x-rays. I'd definitely recommend him. He has a website, not sure I can post but you can find by searching.

You'll have to wait a while for your first appointment as she's really busy, but it's because she prioritises her time for existing patients, so once you're in, you're in.

She looks at every case very much from your face and looks (as well as your bite of course).

thanks for the responses so far. since we are mentioning names, I will say its Peter Gascoine who I have gone to see. Anyone heard or had any experience with him? The consultation cost was Â£120, and he said the next visit is the "report" assesment which usually costs just over Â£200 but since I am having jaw surgery, I need additional x-rays /scans (not sure exactly), and those would be an additional Â£300 , so the next assesment would cost Â£520!

Then i would get the exact quote for treatment.
I have also heard of Anna Gibilaro working with my maxillo surgeon. She charges even more for the consult...half an hour -Â£180! I would like a second opinion, obviously, as jaw surgey is a big deal, and Peter has his own view of what needs to be done, different to the max surgeon.

any more recs/experiences in london would be most helpful

Well, I was a borderline case for surgery but my ortho thought it would be 'too harsh' for me, same as she thinks of extractions in my particular case/face.

My consult didn't cost that much (but wasn't cheap) but the money was saved as I had relatively-recent xrays. It was easyish as she practices at my dentists but my dentist told me that your x-rays are yours, not your dentists. If you have some at your dentists, get them/a copy, it will save you some Â£s.
