I'm 20 and in college and getting braces. I'm getting them because I have a gap in my front teeth and I want to close it and fix my bite. I need my braces on for a little over a year, which I don't think is too bad. This is all happening in the next few days and I'm really really nervous. My question is kind of odd but since I've never had braces I kind of want to know.
What will women think of me with my braces on? Are guys my age with braces generally looked down upon? I know most people will say if they look down on me because I have braces then they aren't worth it. I could get dates before but I'm just kind of worried and I guess I just want to know if I am going to be dateless for the next year because of this.
Also I guess throw in you're dating stories that involve braces if you want.
Odd question

Your question is not odd at all. I'm older than you, but I can tell you that if I saw a fellow with braces, my first reaction would be "good for you, that's cool". I'm certain that I would have had the same reaction when I was 20. Seriously, braces are so common these days and youth are so with it - they understand that you're doing it to improve your smile and health. If anyone thinks otherwise, then they are too shallow to give a second though. Don't be self concious or worry about them. Instead be proud and show them off. Be happy and people will be happy for you. Don't try to hide them. It takes guts to get braces, go with the flow and your year will fly by. I get positive comments about my braces all the time, often coming from 18-22 age group (often people that I don't even know such as in the mall.
Best wishes!

I have to agree with Mary, If I saw a guy with braces, I would personally think that's HOT! It means to me that they care enough about themselves to want the best!
I'm also quite a bit older than you, and am noticing a lot of people in between 20 and 30 that have braces. These days braces are a lot smaller and less noticeable than they were 10 yrs ago. Be proud of your braces and smile a lot! If it's not a big deal to you, then other people will see it that way as well. I do a bunch of wild colors, and make sure they stand out! I'm always getting comments on how great they look!

I'm a 19 year old girl & braces wouldnt put me off at all.
People dont look badly on braces, they see it as a positive change, it's only me that ends up paranoid about them!
I've had mine for just over a month, hasnt stopped any interest from guys so i doubt you'd stop having interest from girls because of them

Hey there,
I'm a 28 year old girl with ceramics and I'm in a relationship so I never really thought much about what the opposite sex thought, however I did feel sort of self conscious about being looked at like a teenager or being taken less seriously because I was in braces. A little while back I overheard a couple of coworkers talking about braces in general and the part that really stuck with me and made me feel quite proud was when I heard one girl say "You know, you'd have to have a lot of confidence to get braces when you're older". It made me feel like saying "damn right!" So keep your head up. Chicks dig confident men braced or not

I'm 23 and have had braces for 15 months now - in that time, dated a few people casually with no worries and been in two relationships. Currently in a relationship and he has only really known me with braces on
Dont worry about it - to be honest, if a person was that shallow that they had an issue with it, then they aren't worth knowing anyway - I've never had a bad comment about the braces - most people are intrigued by it if they even notice them.
Just be yourself and don't eat things that get caught in your teeth when you have a date lol
