How much did your surgery cost?
My OS (who is actually one of the best in Texas) quoted me 30k outpatient surgery.
I just saw someone on here that paid less than 20k. Needless to say I'll go to another state to have the surgery.
What were you quoted? In patient/out patient, did the insurance pay? If so what insurance company are you with?

It can vary pretty widely depending on what gets done, whether you are in or out of your provider network, and so on. My surgeon's fee estimate is something obscene like 70k, but my surgery is difficult and I'm out of network with one of the better surgeons in the country. I'd rather pay extra to make sure this is my last surgery because the redos tend to add up after a while!
Wow, some of these surgeries are crazy expensive. My SARPE surgery was around $13,000. $4,000 for my surgeon + 25% for the assistant surgeon, and like $1,200 for the anesthesia then the rest were crazy hospital fees.
My next surgery which is is going to be $9,000 per jaw, so $18,000 for the upper (impacting) and lower IVRO. Add 25% for the assistant surgeon fee, probably $2,000 for anesthesia give or take, and then how ever much the hospital wants to take from me lol. I'm thinking all said and done it will total around $38,000 but I think it will really depend on how long the stay in the hospital is. That is usually where they get you from what I can tell.

They mainly "get you" with the operating room fees. In my case that amounted to $7,815. Medical Supplies tacked on $7,000(including $3,500 for the fixation plates and screws). Pharmaceuticals were $2,300. The hospital fee for anesthesia services was about $900 and the recovery room was $400. The room was relatively cheap at $2,088 for two days.
60k seems to be about right. Were you in coverage or out of coverage Brendon? It seems that I am now out of coverage for this upcoming surgery and I called my insurance for out of network coverage and this is what they pay based on an out patient surgery (23hours in hospital or less)
I have a $1500 deductable to start with
They then pay 60% up until $3000.00
After $3000.00 they pay 100%
I don't know much about insurance but that just seemed kinda of strange. I'm sure the price goes up by leaps and bounds if it is in patient though. Guess I have to hope everything goes smoothly.

For me, the total to the OS was about $15K, and the hospital for just one night was a whopping $34K! Fortunately, the hospital was covered 100% by my insurance. The surgeon, though, wanted to be paid up front, and in my doing so, I lost the reduction in charges part, because the insurance refused to approve the operation up front--as they wanted to "make sure" that the surgery wasn't cosmetic or experimental. What a bunch of bs! So even though my insurance ended up paying "80" %, after they did the reductions, I only got about $6K back, and lost $9K out of pocket. :{
My SARME surgery was $2500 for the surgeon, $700 for the anaethesiologist, and no idea about the day bed as my health insurance paid for that. Then from the $2500 Medicare (Australian health care) paid for $1000 and my private health insurance paid $350. For the anaesthesiologist I only had to pay $100 as my insurance paid for that. Drugs were only $50 which my private health paid for as well. I did pretty well with my surgery but my braces are costing me $6950
The cost that everyone forgot to mention to me was my expander which cost a cool $1600. I got a 20% discount on it though because I paid for it in full. Big whoop

My surgeons fees were about $16,000 and I am paying about $9,860 out of pocket. This is due to some major issues with my surgeons offices and it being an out of network surgeon because they dropped my insurance company April 16.
I still don't know how much I will owe on the hospital bill because they requested more information. Since it's an in network preferred provider hospital I don't have to pay anything on it right now. I have gotten the EOBs though and the bill is around 20k I think. If approved (don't see why it wouldn't be since the surgery was pre-approved) then my portion of the hospital will be about $1,000.
My braces were $3500.
