Hi, new here...also problem with brackets falling off

#1 Post by lizard »

Hi guys,

I've been on this site a few times but just signed up today. I've had my top braces since June 4th and just got my bottoms on August 4th. So far i'm pretty ecstatic with the results...not as fast as i'd like, but patience is a virtue especially when it's something worth waiting for!

I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with their brackets falling off. The last two months I have had one on one of my top eye teeth fall off 3 times, and I just got my bottoms on less than a week ago and the bracket on my eye tooth just below the top one that i'm having problems with is loose already. I don't eat anything i'm not supposed to and I take good care of my teeth and my braces...anyone have the same problem????

Do you have metal or ceramic brackets? Sometime ceramic brackets will come off easier than metal brackets. In my case I has a ceramic bracket come off twice in the first few weeks and my ortho replaced it with a metal band that couldn't come off.

I have ceramics in the front and metal in the back...it's the ceramics that keep falling off.

I'm only 2 weeks in, but I had a lower front bracket pop off twice. The second time that they put it back on, they switched to a lighter wire. So far, that seems to be the trick. He also mentioned leaving the bracket off, or adding a spring to make more room. The reason my bracket was popping off was because the lack of room on the tooth because of crowding and the angle of the wire from the surrounding teeth. There was just too much pressure on that bracket.

Do you have severe crowding where the brackets are popping off?

I started with ceramics but had to switch to metal. My ortho told me she has about 1 in 100 that for some reason the adhesive just doesn't work with their enamel with ceramics. After one appointment when three brackets were loose I begged to go to the metals. That has been over two years ago without ANY loose brackets. I found ceramics would come off at anything such as a hit from the toothbrush. If the problem persists you may want to ask about changing brackets. Not the look I wanted but if the brackets won't stay on, they also won't work.

Ive had two brackets pop off- one was left off and the other will have a band put on in place since my orthodontist said due to the positioning its prone to come off- so right now i have a spacer in for it- ugh! i thought i was done with spacers!!

Thanks for the info...I've been putting some thought into metal brackets...I didn't get them at first because I was worried about aesthetics, but now that I'm seeing results I would rather just have it done right.

I've had mine on since December, and I've had no problem with loose brackets. Mine are also ceramic on top and metal in the back and bottom. I had one bracket come off, but it was a bad bond and came off while I was eating a hush puppy. I actually work at an orthodontist's office where most of our cases are ceramic, and we have no problem. Do you know what kind of ceramic brackets your orthodontist is using brand wise?

I think mine were Ovation R's.
