An update on my story... And extraction advice please!!!

#1 Post by Mattie09 »

Hi everyone
sorry I haven't posted in a long time. I have just been going through the marathon of dental work I have needed before being reffered to an ortho. I now have had all my fillings and root canals done, as well as a couple of deep cleanings, I now have 6 extractions to go. All of my back molars need to be removed as well as two of my lower incisors. What I want to know is, is it best to have all 6 teeth extracted at once, or have 3 at a time. My dentist has offered both, but I thought I would ask you all what is best.
Thanks guys.

Hi!

I just went through 7 extractions about a month ago before having my braces put on two weeks ago, and for me it was more of a timing issue (I had a break between temp jobs so it was the only opportunity to get it done) but I had them all done at once. Of course it wasn't fun, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was put under general anesthetic for the operation, which was recommended because of the number of teeth being pulled. I'd say just get them all done at once, the recovery process wasn't too horrible but still not something I'd like to go through twice, just get it all over and done with and move on to the next step!

Good luck with everything!

I had all four wisdom teeth removed a little less than a year ago. They removed all four instead of just the two that were impacted because they didn't want the others to start creating problems years later. Plus, having them removed makes the orthodontic process a little more tolerable, from what I hear. I guess it's best to get them all out at one time, just so you're not under the knife more than once. Best of luck!
Braced (upper and lower): 10/29/08
Debraced: 3/17/10
Now sportin' a permanent bottom retainer
Alternate clear retainers every 12 hours

I got impacted canines removed. :/ I guess that's a little different from wisdom teeth? I experienced hardly any pain. General anesthesia, gas first, then intravenous. My orthodontist said I needed to get my impacted canines removed before I could get braces, because they were blocking the roots of my teeth. There was 0% of getting them down anyway, and my teeth were pretty screwed up so I had them removed and braces put on.

From my experience- Get them done all at the same time. There's no point in doing them twice- waste of time and money.
