Inman aligners

Update
Hi all!
Just wanted to post an update. Have had my inman for nearly three weeks now. Saw my dentist last week, and she booked me in for my next appointment 4 weeks from then. The pain in my back teeth has subsided marginally as has my front teeth. However - can still feel the pressure when I take it off so I still know it's working! My front teeth became very painful again end of last week but my dentist said that this is normal, it will come in waves of more or less painful. I've been quoted 6 months to move my upper, and when this is done 3 months for my lower.
A week and a half to go and I will have completed one month - yaaay for me!
Speech has improved a LOT, considering I could barely speak when I first got it and it really got me down, now I only have a minor lisp. Most people don't realise I have it in when I speak until I smile!
My teeth have improved more than I though they would in this short space of time, I can see where my front teeth are now moving forward and creating more space (the gap between my front teeth has also shrunk!). She did say that themajority of the moving would be completed in 3 months, the rest of the time is for letting the bone build up around the new placements.
Will keep you posted, and upon completion can upload a few before and after pics!

My back bar is sitting up near my gums, I had the dental cement done when I got it put it. I've had them in 5 days now and I'm not experiencing any pain anymore.foo wrote:is the back bar sitting up near your gums? i didn't realise that the most efficient way for the IA to sit in your mouth is with the front bar as close to the biting edge as possible, and the back bar as close to your gums as possible - when I had my 2 week appointment the dentist put a small bump of dental cement or something similar behind my front tooth in order to keep the back bar up in the correct position all the time. i found that my teeth were tender all over again (when i took the IA out) after they did this. i have no pain when the IA is in but my teeth are definitely movingThis is what is worrying me, Marky has said that after three hours his teeth are hurting alot. Its now a few days and apart from when I take it out to clean teeth or eat I dont have much pain at all.
I definately do feel uncomfortable when I have it in for long periods of time, but no pain per say. Its more a numbing feeling in my teeth that is uncomfortable but not painful, still wondering if this thing is actually working.
so don't worry - the first 2 weeks are only really for getting used to the IA anyway i.e. speech, drool, pain etc!
I have the front bar in the middle of the tooth, my dentist said if i don't do this properly, dental cement will need to be put on the 2 front teeth to aid this which can and will look unsightly.
My 2 week appointment is on the 18th and my dentist is going to tighten the IA.
Hi all!
I've had mine for 7 weeks now and the difference is AMAZING!! I had serious crowding and overlapping of my upper 4 front teeth. Now when i wake up in the morning my teeth are virtualy perfectly straight!! They do move back slightly if i leave it out for any period more then 2-3 hours, but as soon as i put it back in they move back to their new position in around an hour! Went to dentist and he said hopefully i'll get my clear for final tweeking at my next appointment in 4 weeks!! Fingers crossed!!
Mark... don't worry bif you have to have composite on the front of your teeth. I have the little blobs on the front and back of mine and unless i grin like a fool at someone right up close you can't tell. They feel huge... but look tiny so don't worry!
Also the pain does come in waves as the teeth move and different parts of the teeth are put under the pressure of the IA. At my last apt' Dr Q made the springs on my IA tighter so i can really feel the pressure now!!
Speech is now ok... given up on words that start or end with a 'D' though!

Hi all had my visit yesterday and the dentist said my teeth that were over lapping at the front are now flat which means i have straight teeth. He seems to think that the brace will be finished in 3 weeks, he took a mould for the wire i'm going to have fitted, that was not a pretty experience.
I am happy with the way my teeth have straightned but i think they could do a bit further but he seems to think they're ok? I dont want to get the wire fitted and regret it i'll see how the next 3 weeks develop and go from there? Has anyone else experienced this?
I cant believe it has only been 8 weeks !!!

Clear Aligner
Hi there,
Some people have mentioned that after they have finished with the Inman Aligner they then get a clear aligner for a short time for further movement of the teeth (not the clear retainer you wear at night for maintenance). Has anyone used this clear aligner and can they tell me what sort of tooth movement it is used for - can it help with a slightly rotated tooth?

Hi,
I have had my inman for 26 weeks now to correct a slightly overlapping front tooth. I was told it would take 12 weeks but I still have it. I found I had a lot of movement in the first 7 weeks and from then it's been so slow, although I have had some movement. I've been wearing it on average 16-18 hours a day and the full 20 on weekends.
My tooth is almost straight however it is slightly rotated. My dentist has told me that a clear aligner may help to tweak the final bit into place, but I'm not sure if this tooth is ever going to be that straight! I wish I had gone for the 6 month smiles now as the time it has taken I could have had a "proper" brace and much straighter teeth.
I have heard of a few people successfully using a clear to tweak that final bit into place, so good luck Eib!

Hi Janie
I thought I had had my Inman for a long time until I read your post! I've had it for 16 weeks having been told it would take 8-12 weeks and Im getting quite disheartened.
My front right tooth and the smaller one next to it were twisted and the front tooth overlapped my other big front tooth. To start with the Inman worked really well and my front tooth is now virtually straight however the smaller crooked one next to it doesn't appear to have moved at all. My dentist did mention a while ago about going to the clear aligners for the final stage although when I last went 3 weeks ago he did more filing, tightened up the aligner and said that the tooth would now start moving as the one next to it was straight, however this doesn't appear to be the case.
Im wondering how much longer it will take - I've had the Inman since May and was hoping to have perfect teeth by this time - when I read people on here who have got a pefect result after only 6 or 8 weeks it kind of makes me wonder where I've gone wrong! Ive worn the brace for 18+ hours every day since I had it. Would the clear aligners get the tooth moving quickly?
Anyway if anyone has any encouraging words for me Id be grateful
Thanks

Hi Never2old,
I thought I was the only one having problems!! My front teeth weren't even that bad compared to other cases I've seen completed in 8-12 weeks, so I was thinking I'd be done in 6 weeks, and here I am 26 weeks later.
I too went to the dentist a couple of weeks ago expecting to get my clear aligner after repeatedly going back with no real movement. He spoke to the lab, they recommended more filing and then a revisit again in 3 weeks. I was GUTTED. So it has now been 2 weeks after that almost, and I feel that where he filed it is tight again, and that maybe I need a LOT more filing. I am due to go back in another 2 weeks, but even then he will have to send off for a new clear for me which will be another 2 weeks, so by that time I will be on week 30 or so as a minimum.
I'll keep you updated but I fear my teeth will never get to a totally straight position. Another problem I have is that one tooth is shorter than the other where it wore away due to the grinding on the other tooth. I am hoping that can be sorted with some filing.
Good luck!

Hi Janie
Thanks for your prompt reply- I will be interested to hear what happens for you - my next appointment is in 2 weeks time and I shall push for the clear aligners as I can't really see the point of wearing the Inman when it appears to be having no effect at all. I agree with you on having seen much worse cases than mine apparently fixed in 8 weeks whilst my treatment seems to be never ending!
I have had so much filing done but imagine I will still need more done - I wonder if I will have any teeth left at the end of this!
I can also sympathise you on the different tooth lengths, my front tooth which previously crossed over the one is now nearly straight but quite a bit longer than the one next to it - not quite Nanny McPhee but still noticeable the dentist said he could file it down or put filling material on the longer one - I will be opting for the filing down as from what Ive heard the filling material won't last long and believe you me when this treatment is over I will be staying as far away from dental work as I can!
Anyway good luck - maybe we can break the record for the longest Inman treatments ever!

Ok so this thing has been on my mouth for two weeks. I honestly dont see any difference at all. People have complained of pain, honestly the ONLY time I feel any pressure is when I take it out and the teeth are numb.
The main tooth which protrudes at the front has not shifted at all.
I am really getting disheatened as the dentist said four week to six weeks. I wear it 16 to 20 hours a day
It does not feel tight enough and I have noticed that the side with the protruding tooth seems much loosed than the other side. Can these be tightened?

New to forum - hi everybody.
Hi guys, just found this forum and have had my Inman-Aligner for 3 weeks now. I got it done in London for about £1250 and only have an Inman-Aligner device for my bottom teeth as my tops ones are okay.
I have noticed a few posts saying that you shouldn't wear it for more than 18 or 20 hours a day. I wear mine almost constantly apart from eating and brushing my teeth as my dentist told me the more I wear it the quicker the treatment time, estimated at 12 weeks. Has anybody else been told this conflicting information, does anybody know which instructions I should be following?
I had some slight shaving between the teeth but I think I need more as they seem to have stopped moving and are quite crowded and twisted. I have an appointment next week so I will see what happens. I am going to take some photos tonight of my teeth so I can plot the changes and upload them to a photo-sharing site. I will put the link up and add photos every couple of weeks.
Cheers,
JustLowerTeeth

Pain
ToothlessWonder,
I don't feel any pain at all really during the day, I can feel the tightness against my teeth but I don't feel any pain. They might be a bit tender when I take them off or put them back on for about 5 mins, but after that they are fine. Some other users here say they can't bite down on food afterwards but I think everyone is different, check with your dentist next time you see him. Also ake sure that you have the back (inside) part as close to your gums as possible as I think that provides the greatest pressure, and therefore faster results.
Cheers,
M

Before and after
Hi guys
Getting fitted for my IA on Friday in Edinburgh. Costing me £1200 and the dentist estimates that I'll be good to go in about 16 weeks. Getting married in April so hoping it'll be done and dusted by then!
Just wondered if any of you who have completed your treatments would post your before and after pics for inspiration? I had my pictures taken initially and I can't believe that it'll be fixed in about 4 month's time!
Also, I have been told I'm getting the filing done too - it doesn't hurt too much does it? And do they numb your mouth first?

Filing
The filing didn't hurt me much, I wouldn't worry about it. It's not comfortable as you would imagine but it didn't cause any actual pain for me.
