sjrobins story

#1 Post by sjrobin »

Hi there

Reading the posts have been such a help in making my own decision on what to do that I will try and put something back.

I'm 50 and work as a consultant, meeting people and talking on the phone all the time as well.

I have had problems with my teeth since I was 4 years old. Running with a handful of pencils I knocked out both of my two front teeth. I still have the odd dream of spitting teeth and blood out.

I had two extractions and braces at age 14 and when I was 15 hit a car at about 30 mph and my front teeth dented the car. This broke the brace which was a sort of plastic mouth pallet and the ortho gave up saying the impact had moved them back instantly.

Over the last 35 years I have had three apicectomies on the same front teeth, root fillings, re-root fillings and finally after replacement of the two front teeth with ceramic crowns - because they were both black, had to have them both root filled again and an apicectomy on one of them together with a bone graft because the previos ops had caused so much damage.

This last op was only in April (4 months ago) so my ortho was unsure about moving them but the endodontic surgeon said it was ok.

After much thought, and concerns about the cost - £6,450, decided to go for lingual braces top and bottom. After 30 years of not smiling because of grey/black teeth I don't want to make a habit of it.

I read there are speech issues with lingual for some people but not others, pain from the wires and so on.

Anyway, fitting date is 8th October.

Brace day brought forward

#4 Post by sjrobin »

Quick update.

My lingual braces are ready (after 6 weeks instead of 8) so the date has been brought forward to thursday 24th September. I didn't have to bring the day forward but ut shortens the time I have to worry about the fitting.
