Nervous - 4 extractions tomorrow

#1 Post by Metal Mouth TN »

I'm getting 4 teeth extracted (2 premolars on top and 2 premolars on bottom) tomorrow at noon and am getting nervous. I've read a lot of posts on here about people who question having the extractions done and others who regret having them done.

If you don't regret having the extractions done, can you give me a bit of encouragement? I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I don't regret it at all! My poor teeth had no where to go. And what would they have done instead? You can't magically create more jaw room. Something has to go, or you stick in expanders and sorry, but the idea of forcing my jaw apart twist by twist sounds excruciating and just... no.

I had four teeth out: my front premolars. The extraction itself wasn't painful. The shots before hand were, but just pinch yourself or something similar to spread out the pain and it's manageable. I did have to ask for one more shot during the extractions because I felt it a bit. Don't feel afraid to ask for more anesthetic!!

When my first tooth came out I cheered!! Okay, more like I gave a muffled gargle. But the dentist and his assistant thought it was pretty funny :D

Well I got reassurance from the assistant when she and I were looking at my xrays and she was like pointing out to me how there is no room in my mouth for all my teeth. And how it's really backed up in there and all that. I know some ppl what they do is not get extractions and later on in the treatment if things can't go further w/out them they get them out. I know it's scary but you should call the ortho and ask them to get your reassurance. I don't regret getting mine at all, I can't wait to be able to close my mouth properly without it hanging out! :D

I might be too late to reassure you before your procedure, but I had four extractions with no regret.

Good luck with your recovery time as your mouth heals! :)

I had seven (yeah...seven) extractions two weeks before getting my braces on. No regrets here at all, like Takako already said, my teeth had no where to go! Any improvements would have just been impossible with so many teeth and so little jaw. I was nervous but excited to take the first step, and I'm really glad I did!

Good luck with your recovery!!
