Broken Lingual Arch help please??

#1 Post by Amarea »

I've had a lingual arch on for a few months to upright a wisdom tooth that was tipped in. I had a molar pulled as a teen that I had broken due to grinding and we are using this in place of that molar.

Had a check yesterday. He tossed around the idea of taking it out but said he would leave it in for another 3 weeks to hold the position of the wisdom tooth while working on my top teeth. About 10 minutes ago, the wire detached from the band on the opposite side of the wisdom tooth. My ortho closed at noon and I don't have an emergency number or anything to call.

Anyone know what to do?

Is the lingual arch soldered to the band or is there a attachment on the inside that the LA can go in and out of? If it is the second you can try to put it in. If it is the first you need to see the doc and it will likely be unsalvagable.

It was soldered on. The funny thing is that of all things, it broke while I was eating potato soup because my teeth hurt! Of all the other non-brace friendly foods I've eaten, soup did me in!

drrick, do you think he would absolutely kill me if I used a bit of temparin or something of that nature to attach it back onto the band until monday? The wire stays relatively in place unless pressure is put on it like when I'm eating. Or should I just wax the tip of it and ride it out?

Thanks!

Well it was probably broken before the soup. The weld was weakend or broken and then it finally gave loose when you swallowed.

I do not know what temparin is. SO type of glue? I would glue it If anything put it in place and then lay some sugarles gum over it to hlod the pieces together. Other wise just wax teh end.
