Forsus appliance for Noncompliat elastics wearer

Because I have been found to be a noncompliant elastics wearer I am to be corrected by having nonremoveable Forsus appliances placed between my arches. Is anyone else wearing these? Would love to hear what they are like to wear? And, are they visible when you talk?

I confessed to "forgetting" to wear my elastics whenever I went out in heels and the Ortho was not happy. He says I will love these devices because I wont forget to wear them ( or that I have them on and was a bad girl).

I can't answer your question but I can sympathise with how easy it is to forget, and when I yawn I often break them :/

I've had the forsus spring on my left side since february, i didn't have elastics mine is to help fix my alignment because i woulnt have jaw surgury. I was scared at first but it's not too bad. It is pretty painfull at first because of all the pressure and it takes a while to get used to it. You can't really see it when you talk, nobody really notices mine. But it does give your lip a raised bump on the outside. It does irritate your lips until they get used to it. Flossing is not very easy on that side. Mine's finally coming out next month. I'm happy I had it though because it worked fast.

Will definitely take a few days to get used to the springs. There are several ways your orthodontist can place them to make them more comfortable.

Check out this site from an orthodontist in western Canada. He's probably one of the most experienced FORSUS users out there.

OMG! So much for the aesthetic look of my ice brackets. If they had shown me these devices on day one I would have run out of the office. I don't see how they will get these on without making me look like a chipmunk.

You could always go back to elastics and promise to be compliant.

Audra: You are correct, except when I called my ortho to discuss the matter he explained that my stubborn refusal to follow his instructions will delay my release date by two months and he diddn't want to fiddle around with my silly behavior any more. He is probably right, I doubt if I will ever be compliant; its not my natrure. He did ofer me an olive branch. I will be eased into the more agressive arch wire and am to come in Monday late and have a stainless steel round wire put in for six weeks before we start the Forsus treatment. He said he normally would have had me wear my first wire 6 more weeks. He finished by saying "Don't be surprised if the new stainless steel wire makes your teeth sore." I promised not to complain. I am embarassed at freaking out about this new development and have decided that

I am going to love having my mouth look like a Waste Management truck. Too bad the new equipment won't be ready for haloween.

If it is not in your nature to be compliant, will you be able to tolerate the upkeep of braces in general? Brushing? Flossing? Wearing retainers to keep your investment in your teeth in place? Again, I wish you luck!

Aren't you getting this treatment with your 2 daughters? When they see you being so difficult with the ortho are they going to follow your example and be difficult as well? Such as not wearing elastics when their time comes, not following ortho's instructions?? Your ortho called you a "bad girl", it sounds like you are acting like a child. I'm not trying to be mean, but you are getting these things put in your mouth with your daughters, they are going to look to you to follow by example and you just explain your behavior off by "your difficult nature"

Given your statement that you don't ever expect to be compliant, it surprises me that you even got braces. Were you pressured into it by someone?

Only a month in and already refusing doctors orders, I wonder how things will be after 2 years!
At the end of the day I would rather wear elastics than prolong treatment. Better having 3 months of wearing elastics 24/7 than 2 years of wearing them every now and then.

I hope your daughters will help mom figure how to be compliant

By the way, if you're not planning to wear your retainers I would not bother carrying through with your ortho treatment. Better just get the braces off now and avoid any damage to teeth, roots, gums. Teeth will move back if you don't wear retainers. (Been there

, this is my 2nd treatment).

For sure I'd rather wear elastics than that appliance! At least I can remove them to eat or give a presentation. I've been wearing elastics for 24/7 for 23 months. Hope others don't have such a long sentence.

I had these for a few months when I had my braces. They did make my teeth pretty sore, but it is just another thing you get used to. Good luck.
