Today I was eating a cut apple and when I finished I fet something strange in my mouth. To my surprise the back wire on the top left has come off. My next appointment is a week away. What should I do???

Has the bracket come off your tooth or has the wire come away from the bracket?
I had a bracket pop off (when eating some crusty pizza- oops!) a few days before an appointment. I rang my ortho and they told me just to wait til I was next in.

I would ring your ortho asap and tell them what's happened and on which tooth. They will be able to tell you whether you need to come in straight away or can wait til your appointment.
If the wire is causing you any pain then try putting a big glob of wax around it for now.

Luckily, it is only the wire that has come off and not the entire bracket itself. To be more specific it is the wire on the last tooth. From what I can see I could pop the wire back into the hole but its too difficult to do on my own. Do you think I can wait until my appointment next saturday??

I did this a few times when I was in the first year when I was on the softer archwires. Eating too hard things made the wire pop out on the last bracket.

If the wire's digging into your cheek over the weekend, try and get it back in, my hubby managed to get mine in once with tweezers. Otherwise, try and manage for comfort with wax. Call your ortho's office first thing on Monday morning, they should be able to schedule you in for putting the wire back in or if they have time they may bring your appointment forward. My ortho only works 1-2 days a week at my dental practice but for something that straightforward, the dentist pops the wire back in or clips it.

My wire is held in there really firmly and on my bottoms it even goes through the tube. I have several millimeters of wire that extends beyond the back molars, and the ends are curved to prevent cheek poking... I can't see how they could ever pop off O.o But I guess some orthos don't do it that way?

No I don't think it's common the wire intentionally sticks out past the tube.

If you chew something hard it can bend the wire and pull it out of the tube, especially with lighter wires in earlier treatment. (I almost did that a couple times but only bent it didn't pull it out completely.) Or if a wire stop is not placed somewhere on the wire, is can slide around so much is comes out the tube on one end. (happened to me once)

To the OP: try to bend your wire away from the cheek, and chew on the other side of your mouth.
