drrick,

Where is the ideal position to have the back and front of the inman-aligner on the lower teeth. I have been pushing the back (inside) down as far as possible and having the front (visible) part just under flush with my bottom teeth.

I feel more pressure if I put the inside bar higher up inside my teeth, but my dentist advised pushing it down. I have a feeling he is in-experienced with the inman-aligner cos he couldn't give a straight answer when I asked him where I should position it. He said 'I guess kind of a bit of both, at the top and the bottom' which isn't the solid answer I was looking for!

the lowers tend to hit the sweet spot on their own pretty wll. It is usually the upper arch that needs some help (composite stops on the back of the teeth)

Lower is usually better than higher since the higher position tends to 'slip off' the teeth and render the appliance not as effective.

It never seems to slip off in my case, even if right at the top - I must have grippy teeth! But it definitely feels like it is pushing a lot more when higher up and as my dentist advised 'a bit of both' I have been slightly alternating between a higher and a lower position.

Based on on your advice and my dentists advice I will just leave it in the middle somewhere.

The lowers do not slip too much. It is usually the upper appliances.

The most important factor is really wear time.

He has worked wonders on my teeth. He makes the 3 hr each way drive every 4 weeks totally worth it!
Would recommend him to EVERYONE!

hi ive had my aligners on for over 2 weeks now saw and felt it working on the first few days!u no the coil wire that attatches to your back teeth are they meant to actually touch your teeth?cuz one side does tpuch the teeth and one side doesnt now im worried they might not be working as well as they should be![/b]

Got the call yesterday, getting my wire fitted today and my two front teeth evened up as one is longer than the other, i've been looking at my straigher teeth now for a while and cant wait to see the final touch as i'm only 90% happy with them but i think it's cause the length is uneven which is taking the 10% away. I'm less paraniod about smiling now than i ever was and i never cover up my smile now

Hey everyone,

I'm 7 weeks into my treatment now and I'm very happy with the results so far!

The one rogue front tooth that was very crooked at the start has straightened up nicely - however there is a noticeable gap between my front teeth now beside my gums...

I'm wondering will my gum grow down a bit to fill in this gap??

Has anyone experienced this at all?

I can see a tiny tiny hole between my teeth now cause of it but it's not noticeable really and i was thinkg if my crooked tooth went any straigher then there would be a gap which i wouldnt want it will probably fill itself in but you're best asking your dentist on your next visit

Well I've had my IA for two weeks today. My dentist told me not to expect anything in the first fortnight but I was SURE my teeth had moved.... and they have!
Apart from feeling it with my tongue and seeing it in the mirror, the photos he took today show a significant difference already. So I'm well happy with that!

My speech is still a mess, I'm lisping horribly even though I wear the IA all the time. It's a pain on the phone and for some calls I have had to pop it out because it gets so tiresome.
However I'll persist because if the IA is working, and working this quickly, it'll be done soon.

Hi there, When I'm finished with my Inman Aligner my top two front teeth will be straightened but one will be slightly longer than the other due to uneven wear. I would like to correct this but really don't want the bonding on my teeth. Is it possible to even out the lengths of the top two front teeth by shaving off the extra length on the slightly longer one. I did mention this to my dentist a while back and he gave me the impression it would be possible, but I forgot to talk to him about it at my last visit. What are the pros and cons of this treatment? Any advice would be great, thanks

It an be done if the size difference isnt too much and if shorthening the one doesnt go through the enamel and into the underlying dentin layer. Most people do look better with teeth that are longer instead of shorter though.

It is really pt specific. Personally I do it both ways based on pt wishes and what will look best and be the healthiest.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get more info about the IA before I decide to jump in. A little info on me, I had braces previously (they've been off for about a year and a half). After a ton of dental work (crowns, fillings) my retainers no longer fit properly, leading to some relapse in my lower front teeth. I am interested in going with the Inman Aligners to correct the relapse. I am really only interested in getting an IA for my lower teeth, as my upper retainer still fits fine. First question, is it possible to just treat one arch with the IA (I ask because my ortho said it was almost impossible to just brace one arch when using conventional braces)? What is the average cost of an Inman aligner in the U.S. ? Also, is the aligner also used as a retainer after the relapse is corrected, or would I need a different retainer? How long approximately does it take for the aligner to correct minor to slightly moderate relapse? Thanks.

Well got my IA on the 20th July and finished my IA on the 8th Oct. I got the wire fitted and I didnt fela a thing. One tooth was longer than the other and i had a couplr of chips but nothing a little composate didnt solve, now i have straight lovely white teeth i keep forgetting that i can smile now without worryingabout my crooked smile !

The IA is so worth it ...not a lot of pain and straight teeth in such a quick timeframe, everyone is amazed !!! The speech thing was a pain for a while but by the end i really didnt care cause i knoew it was for the greater good !!

Keep smiling everyone !!!

I'll keep on popping in and out just to see how everyone else is doing with their IA

Hi everyone, it has been 6 weeks now and I am a little concerned. For the first 4 weeks there was no pain and little movement in my teeth. I was wearing the aligner for 14 hours a day and a bottom retainer at nightime. It seemed loose.

I got it tightened after the last visit and things started to move almost immediately. One side has straightened and almost back to where they should be. It is amazing. There is one tooth that is being difficult though. It has begun to overlap on the other front tooth only noticed it this morning, phoned surgery and they said dont worry, it is moving at least and should correct itself. I will say that wearing the aligner for more than 14 hours a day is very much needed. 18 to 20 seems optimal for me.

I am delighted so for with the results although I wish this damned protruding tooth would hurry up like the rest of them and start moving faster. Cannot wait to get the treatment finished, hopefully in time for Christmas. time to show these brilliant white gnashers off.

Seriously, after years of being embarrassed and not smiling, I am amazed at the difference a few weeks can make. People have even commented that something is different about me. (And this from a shy guy who always puts his hand over his mouth while laughing)
