one week until braced...! questions AND before PICS!! :D

#1 Post by neon »

Hi everyone!!! :-1

I have exactly one week from today til I'm
getting braced up for the 2nd time, weeee.
Just to recap, i'm 19 and I had braces when
I was 12-15... and my ortho screwed up somewhat
and took them off too early, ladeeda, my teeth
shifted back... I'd tell you what's wrong w/ them
but the pictures will say it all!! They're not AS
bad as before, but they're pretty dang narrrrr-sty! :yuck:

Here's the dealeo kay? :D
Uppers : iBraces
Lowers: Normal metal
Estimated treatment time: 18 months

Questions!!!!
1.) Did you lose any weight after getting the iBraces? I've heard that eating is a pain after getting them... if you lost weight, how much and in what amount of time? I'm at 128..ish lbs, and I want to be 120 or less! Just lemme know!

2.) Food recommendations? Lemme know!

3.) Scale of one to ten, how was the pain? Be honest people!

4.) What color should my first ligs be for the bottom row? Throw out some suggestions, i'd loooove to hear 'em!

Hi there,

Good luck for your brace fitting. Your teeth look lovely, they will be great once completely straightened!''

I've got incognito (europe equivalent to ibraces) on both upper and lower arches. Unfortunately, I'm surprised by how much I manage to eat even though eating is more difficult - I only lost a few pounds during the extraction week (I had pre molars extracted), when my mouth was very tender, but I'm sure I've put that back on since I've adapted to eating. Most people seem to say they only loose a few pounds''

The lingual (ibraces) take a lot of getting used to as your tongue gets so sore initially, the lowers were much worse so hopefully it won't be so bad for you as your just having them on the uppers. It took about a month for the tongue to feel better - I now hardly notice. The soreness is quite hard but definitely worth it when you see the results, and it all settles in a few week - honestly!!

Speech was really 'lispy' at first, and I thought I'd never get used to that. I now only lisp if I'm tired or have a dry mouth. Softer food like pasta & soups are easiest, particularly in the beginning.

You will not regret getting it done, it is so wonderful to have braces that can't be seen - I wish I had done it much sooner!

Good luck and let us know how you get on. ':P'

thanks so much Lynne :D

how long have you had the linguals on? how long did it take for you to get them on? And are your teeth moving quickly?

I'm kind of nervous... now that the brace date is coming up
it's going to be so... weird... i even tried sticking a gum wrapper around my teeeth to see how it would be, but idon't know if that's a comparable thing to do haha.

I'll be sure to post pictures when the braces are on : D

p.s thank you for the 'lovely teeth' comment, even though they are quite hideous to me

Hi Neon,

I had the lower lingual braces fitted in February this year - my lower teeth looked a lot like yours. I was very nervous about having braces and I had put it off for years!!!! I was initially only going to get the lowers fixed as my upper teeth weren't too bad (or so I thought until the lower teeth started to look good). I found it so much easier than I expected, and as the lower teeth started to look better I then wanted the upper teeth to look good too, so I had the upper lingual brace fitted in September (6 weeks ago) after 2 extractions. The appointment to put the lingual braces on was probably about an hour for each arch (I'm sure yours will be quicker if you're having them both done together).

The lower teeth moved very very quickly, looking better in just a few weeks and almost completely straight by the 2nd adjustment., just the extraction gaps to close now. The upper teeth seem more stubborn and I think they look a bit worse at the moment than when I started - a lot of people on here seem to say that they go through a phase where teeth look worse before they improve. I only had the first adjustment on the upper brace last week so I'm sure I'm just being too impatient! :(

It's hard to describe how it feels...if you have ever had a broken tooth with a rough edge and your tongue just can't leave it alone...it kind of feels a bit like that but all over the backs of the teeth, particularly the front ones. It really isn't too bad - honestly! The tongue soreness gets you down a bit, but it really does get better all of a sudden, after about a month - but worth it not to have the brace showing!

Your teeth look good already (probably as you've had treatment before) and I am sure they will respond very quickly this time. I keep meaning to post some pictures and will get round to it soon.

Good luck with next week!!!

Heelloo!

Don't be afraid of the pain, it will go away quickly. For the first two/three i couldn't chew at all, but after that i gradually started a soft diet.

Of course, i lost weight, but not that much at all. When you only have liquids for two/three days, you can see results! lol You'll gain it back -if you want !- when you'll start chewing again!

Here's a few soft food recommandations, as you asked!

  • Omelet
    Salmon
    Small pastas with sauce
    Tuna & avocado with lime
Soups & creams (it's Fall; reach for pumpkins, carrots... yummy!)
Tacos filling (Meat & salsa) or Chili
    Smoothies
Risotto (Rice meal with seasoning as you like)

Wishing you the best of luck!

You have beautifully shaped teeth. I am sure the final result will be very nice.

If I may ask, why are you getting metal on the lowers?
I can understand not getting lingual of the lower for various reasons but why metal and not clear. Just curious.

1 year in to my Linguals.

#9 Post by truetoform »

Hi,

Im a 30 year old guy from London Uk. Had Lingual on for a year now and prob have 3/4 months left.

I have already completed 10 months of invisiline on my top teeth and wore that along with my lingual braces on the lower teeth.

I had a 1 tooth extracted on my lowers which i hear is quite rare nowadays. it was the tooth bang in the middle.. It had to be taken out due to overcrowding and that I have a bite on bite... so it would allow room for the teeth to move inwards... slant back so my top teeth slide over them ...if you get what i mean!

Anyway... sure initially they were alien, but i could eat and drink as normal. I was eating normal stuff.. maybe just stayed away from apples and rolls etc...but certainly didnt lose weight! But i could understand if some people do.

after 2/3 weeks they were fine and now obviously they are non existant! feels that way anyway.

Im really happy i had them done. It was a big step mentally and financially but i am so glad i got it done.

good luck.

John
