Inman aligners

Hi everyone, it has been 6 weeks now and I am a little concerned. For the first 4 weeks there was no pain and little movement in my teeth. I was wearing the aligner for 14 hours a day and a bottom retainer at nightime. It seemed loose.

I got it tightened after the last visit and things started to move almost immediately. One side has straightened and almost back to where they should be. It is amazing. There is one tooth that is being difficult though. It has begun to overlap on the other front tooth only noticed it this morning, phoned surgery and they said dont worry, it is moving at least and should correct itself. I will say that wearing the aligner for more than 14 hours a day is very much needed. 18 to 20 seems optimal for me.

I am delighted so for with the results although I wish this damned protruding tooth would hurry up like the rest of them and start moving faster. Cannot wait to get the treatment finished, hopefully in time for Christmas. time to show these brilliant white gnashers off.

Seriously, after years of being embarrassed and not smiling, I am amazed at the difference a few weeks can make. People have even commented that something is different about me. (And this from a shy guy who always puts his hand over his mouth while laughing)

Well, went back for my 4 week check on Monday, all my spaces had filled in, but not really any noticable movement yet! Got some filing done, and the dreaded composite fillings on the back of my teeth to keep the bar in place, and now am getting a lot more pressure, which can only be good! The composites aren't too bad, not noticable at all from the front, and mean you don't have to worry about the aligner being in the right place.

My dentist assures me that the next 3 weeks are when I should really start to notice a change, so here's hoping, I'd love to be done by Christmas!

Have my IA in a week now and it's not to bad at all love the fact I can take it out if I need to. I think my teeth have moved a little bit already.

due back in 2 weeks but think I need more filing now as don't think they will move until I get that done as theres no room will email my dentist today.

Hello,

my dentist has suggested an Inman Aligner as one of my lower front teeth is overlapping the two teeth on either side of it. The dentist said that the sides of the overlapping tooth must be cut down so that it will fit back into the gap...has anyone had this done? I don't like the sound of cutting teeth down.

Sounds like your dentist is talking about filing the teeth. Don't worry, most of us have had it done when there is an overcrowding problem, it's just a small metal strip which shaves tiny bits off the sides of your teeth to make room for the teeth to move. It doesn't hurt, just feels a little bit strange, and is nothing to worry about!

Thanks for the reply, I think I'm a little put off because the pics I was shown as an example showed a small gap between the straightened tooth where the sides had been filed down.

That is called by many names:
IPR, slenderizing, reprox, and more.

It has been done in orthodontics for over 60 years. Research shows is no increase in cavities, periodontal diseas or tooth sensitivity.

It is used very commonly to make space to move teeth.
It is done day in and day out in pretty much all offices doing ortho

Hi guys, I am in week 8 and the difference has been amazing in the last 2-3 weeks and I can really see my teeth straightening up. My dentist says that the next time I see him in 3 weeks he expects them to be all aligned.

The only problem I have is that my back molars don't touch as much anymore so I can't really grind my food or chew as well. My bottom teeth have been pushed forward to align them, and as they now push on my upper front teeth it forces my jaw back. I constantly feel like I am pulling my jaw back and it's not very comfortable to close it at all.

Has anybody else experienced this after their teeth were straightened? It's all good and well having perfectly straight teeth but if I can't rest my jaw or chew properly then it's not much good.

Any advice is very much appreciated - I am seeing my dentist in two weeks so will ask him as well.

YOu just need a small adjustment on teh back of the upper teeth to accompdate the more forward psotion of the lower teeth. It may not be that much -- everything interference feels huge in your mouth.

Hi Drrick,

Does that mean I will need some kind of appliance on my top teeth to do this as I only have a lower Inman-aligner as it was only my lower teeth that needed straightening. When I was at school I had braces on my top teeth, but not the lower. My top teeth are still straight as I have a metal retainer on the back of them that has been there 11 years, it just seems that are slightly too far back now to accomodate the new straightened teeth below.

Is it possible that after time, once the lower retainer wire has been fitted that the front teeth and molars will settle themselves over time? As like you say, it is probably only very slight, but feels like a big difference in my mouth.

Pumpkinpie, if it's any help, I've had this done twice so far, and neither time was able to see any visable gaps between the teeth, so don't be worried.

youmay just need the tongue side of the upper teeth polished a bit where the lower teeth are hitting heavier. I just did this w/ a pt this week as a matter of fact. Another thing that may work is some ipr and retraction of the lower teeth back to remove any bite interference. In more xtreme circumstances an aupper appliance may be needed to move the uppers forward to provinde room for the lowers to unravel.

I wouldnt trust just letting the molars settle (unless it is a very small amount) the extra pressure from the occlusion can chipo the lower teeth, or debond that upper splint and then cause spaces btwn the teeth. Obviously, I have never seen your teeth but very often the adjustment on teh back of the upper teeth works great and is quick and easy.

Hi,

Has anyone else had composite on the back of teeth that interfere with their bite? I have to be really careful eating if I hit it it's really sore.

Had my first two week visit yesterday had loads of composite put on to hold the brace in place and when I ate I bite one side off and had to go back to the dentist he removed most of it it's only on one side now but I still hit off it when I eat and ouch it hurts. My tooth has twisted slightly and dentist is now trying to straighten it. I don't feel any pressure on any other teeth. I'm back in two weeks and think it's going to be a long two weeks as feeling a little worried about it all now will this work?

ON the upper teeth it is common to put a couple of composite bumps to allow the aligner to push in the right direction.

Hi guys.

Need some advice! Had the first of my clears posted to me today from my dentist... but i cant get the bloody thing to stay in my mouth! Its sooooo TIGHT! When it 'clicks' onto the front teeth it 'clicks' off the back teeth. When it's clicked onto the back teeth, the front sits down low (ther is about 1.5 mm of space at the bttom where my teeth wont go into it). And no matter how it's sitting when ever i speak i'm sprayig saliva everywhere from out of the top of the front teeth! Its like a well filling up with spit behind my front teeth and then spraying out the top!! Not to mention the PAIN in one of my canines, which isn't even one of the teeth thats supossed to be moved with the clear!!
HELP!!
I thought clears were supposed to be heaven after the IA???
