Oh just noticed you said WITHOUT. Anyhow, maybe you wouldn't need upper and lower if you don't have a gummy smile.

I have a long face with no gummy smile. I will have a Lefort 1 (upper jaw surgery) this Monday to correct an open bite and a very slight underbite. (My underbite isn't big enough to warrant surgery on both jaws.) I expect this to shorten my face somewhat.

I have been on one consult and the Dr said he could do a genioplasty.
But I know my maxilla is too long
I do have another consult in Dec.
I hope someone can help me out because I cant go thru my whole life having to look at my face like this
Do you have a similar problem?

I think that if you get your maxilla impacted, something will need to be done with the lower jaw too, otherwise you'll end up with some kind of malocclusion. Also bringing your maxilla up will cause the upper lip to partially or entirely cover your teeth when you smile. Basically your smile will look more like a smirk. But I think that can be corrected with a lip lift.
Also since the whole procedure will be done exclusively for cosmetic purposes, I doubt that your insurance will pay a single penny.

thanks Davide!
the dr did mention that if I had my upper jaw moved up then it would look very bad since my teeth wouldnt show when I smiled
he said to just reduce my chin but he said that chins can only be reduced 2 or 3 cm
i dont know if this is enough to make me look decent

What did the doc say about the measurements of your face? If your maxilla is too long you would have lip incompetence (do you?) or gummy smile, right? I would ask more specific questions if possible.

I have a long face/gummy smile/lip incompetence.....getting Lefort 1 done hopefully soon!

I think you meant to say 2-3 mm. 1 cm is equal to 10 mm. 3 cm is more than an inch, and that's A LOT of movement.
