Bracket on porcelain crown?

does anyone know if its possible to attatch a bracket to a porcelain crown? i have a crown on one of my top lateral incisors and might be getting braces soon- would this be a problem?

Bonding the bracket to porcelain should be no problem. My bracket has been firmly affixed to the crown for over a year. Bonding to a porcelain crown is basically the same process as bonding a real tooth to a porcelain/ceramic bracket.

The bracket on my gold crown, however, popped off two or three times before my ortho finally put a band on it. Good luck!

I have a porcelain crown on my lower first molar and had a buccal bracket attached to it and had no problems.

The surface of the tooth is often roughened up by a bur, followed by an etch. This is different from the regular etch used and it should remain on the tooth for about 5 min. It is extremely important for this etch not to touch any of the soft tissues, as it can burn very badly. Next that is washed off, dried, and a porcelain conditioner placed. From here on the bonding steps are like on a tooth. Note that after treatment, you may need to see your dentist to have the crown polished off. Good luck!

thanks for the replies! just getting my head round what i'll look like if i get braces and then started worrying about if they would have to band it and how that would look on a front tooth so thanks guys for ending my thoughts of panic!
First appointment on christmas eve! its only for an initial consultation but still very nervous although also strangely excited in a weird way! Def going to ask about ceramics tho cos i saw a girl at my gym with them and thought they looked quite good.
