adjustment #1--kinda uneventful. new wire today--0.014 X 0.025. No new kinks or anything. I am sort of surprised given that when I had braces as a kid they were constantly kinking my wire and it would hurt like H@##. Next appt isn't for 8 weeks. They told me I can get my sure smile scan and will probably get another new wire.

No pain with the wire change, but I could immediately feel more pressure. Now it is 5 hrs later and my lower arch is starting to ache...my back molars feel pressure also. I think my lower arch is going to move a lot more this time. He said he wanted to try and let the lower teeth work themselves out.

sorry i haven't posted pix. hopefully i can in the next few days.

happy holidays everyone!

Hi emms and Ken...thanks for the posting.

I still haven't had time to take pictures, but holy moly do my teeth ache. I'm glad they didn't do much more to my mouth! BUT I can tell you that the bottom front teeth have now come into a nearly perfect arch (except I can tell on the right side it is not correct yet). My biggest thing is that now I think I have an open bite on the left hand side. really, I can see space there. When I bite (lightly because my teeth are killing me!), the right hand side touches but the left doesn't. I'm scared now because I read some horror stories about people trying to get their bite fixed (like me) and ending up with a serious open bite.....I hope this is just temporary.

I'm glad i had my adjustment this week, though. hopefully the pain will be gone by next week and i can eat something again.......

back to my aching jaw!

Okay, I haven't posted in a while, but there has been not much to report. What I don't like is the fact that there are now a bunch of gaps and none of my front teeth are touching. It is driving me crazy to have so much space between my teeth.....

Honestly, now I'm getting down about the braces.....my next adjustment is february 12.

glad to catch up with everyone's stories!

i'll post again after my next adjustment. for now i'll go snore in the corner and wait until I can bite again!

Hey Trish :D

I've seen lots of your posts here on the boards...just thought I'd stop in and say 'hi'. Good to read your story. You're teeth look pretty nice to start with. My starting pictures don't look so nice  . I agree that fixing the bite issues is just as important as having straight teeth. I think maybe a lot of people don't look like they need braces at first glance, but who have bite issues that can affect them later. I've been braced for just a few days now (second time). My primary reason is also bite issues. I did think my teeth looked straight until the wire went on.....

Good luck while you're going through the awkward stage you're at now. I'm sure everything will work out.

Hi Trish
Feb 12th won't be long coming around, bet you can't wait. I understand about the spaces and the frustration you are feeling, I am the same. I keep telling myself it's not permanent, this is just happening along the movement journey, it kind of helps sometimes!!
Keep us posted and hang in there

Bye for now

Hey everyone...thanks for replying. Tomorrow is my second adjustment and I wanted to post some pictures of my newly created gaps...I have one that is big to me on the left hand side:

Image

It is driving me crazy. You think food would NOT get stuck in there since it is open. ARGH!

The right side has a similar smaller gap, but the teeth are not touching on either side anymore........

Image

I hope tomorrow I get something to close these up because I really don't want to have gaps in my smile.

I have my sure smile scan also tomorrow. They said I may have a wire change...we'll see. I just wanted to post some pictures of before and hopefully after tomorrow something to close the gaps!

I'll post more tomorrow!

Hi everyone!

I had my second adjustment yesterday. They did an x-ray of my head for the sure smile and took a million pictures of my bite, etc. No new wire, but added a wire tie from #6 molar to canine #2 on the left hand side. They told me that was to keep that from moving while the power chain from 2 on left to 3 on the right gets rid of the gap that I showed you the other day. Interesting becasue i immediately wanted to 'look at my power chain, but I realized that it is clear and I can't see it. COOL!

There is only mild pain on the right hand side today. My front teeth are not sore at all.

He said that with the sure smile wires he is going to continue broadening my arch and begin moving the teeth so that they fit together better...

next appointment = 6 wks......I hope it flies by like these last 8 wks did...

Happy valentines day everyone!

okay, i'm looking at my teeth and thinking, "WOW, do you need whitening!" I definitely think I'll ask for whitener when I'm done...any one else going to whiten their teeth?

five days since my last adjustment and there is not really anything going on. snore. I'm waiting for my next adjustment.....i think she scheduled me 7 weeks out instead of 6 weeks out. I'm going to try and change my appointment! I don't want to wait 7 weeks when I'm supposed to only go 6!

hope everyone had a wonderful valentines day. sick of snow here....

BORED with my braces now! My teeth feel like they are loose especially when I bite on the front teeth.

They called and i had to go back in to rescan part of my back teeth for the sure smile thing. apparently the ONLY large filling I have messed the other scan up....Nevertheless, my next appointment is at the end of march...i'm ready now...nothing going on...lets get a move on!

Adjustment tomorrow...much anticipated. I'm having to use wax on the lower arch on the right hand side because I think a bracket is chewing up the side of my mouth. Power chain on the front closed the gap for the most part. I'll be anxious to see what they do tomorrow. I know for sure that i'm getting a new wire on top and bottom...i'm almost ready to beg them for elastics to get my teeth moving.....

I'll post again tomorrow!

Had my 3rd adjustment today. Wire change on top and bottom to the sure smile wires. I think the size is back to 0.14, but I'm not sure. There are a million little bends in them and I'm sure i'm going to be hurting a lot more than I already am.

Gaps were closed, so wire tie all across the top. IPR on bottom teeth, and powerchained down there also. No elastics this time, but possibly next time (maybe class III?)...I'm not sure!

Anyway, teeth are aching and they did show me the cool simulation of where my teeth were going to move. next adjustment 6 wks and should get another new wire. After that wire, they will evaluate where I am! I could be done soon, but I don't want to say that too loud. I bet there will be more tweeking that needs to be done...

hope all are enjoying spring!
