Question to ask at the pre-op appointment

#1 Post by ossiander »

I have my pre-op appointment on Dec 16th and I am trying to come up with a good list of questions to ask. I am having the lower jaw moved forward and the top broken to fit the bottom. I know that I will be in the hospital at least overnight.

Friday I got the surgical bands on, OUCH! Those post are not fun in the mouth.

Here are some of the ones I have come up with so far.

Stuff to do before surgery:

When/Do I need to stop taking Aspirin and Ibuprofen?

I am getting my teeth cleaned the day before surgery, is this ok?

Stuff after surgery

Will I be wired or banded shut?

Will I be able to swallow pills?

When I can I start exercising?

What is the time line for eating?

When can I get my surgical bands off?

How often do I need to see you?

Will my face be numb?

How will I clean my teeth?

Question for the pre-op appointment with the hospital

What do I need to bring?

Where will I be after the surgery?

What does my Mother need to pick me up?

I am fairly certain that I am missing some questions.

It sounds like you've got most of it covered.
A couple of thoughts...
I was told to stop taking any aspirin type meds at least 2 weeks prior to surgery.
Your surgeon will give you instructions but don't forget to take your list to your appt(I tend to make lists and forget them lol)
If you haven't already, go through as many threads here as possible about what you'll need to stock up on for your recovery.

Good luck!
